If you could share some patches would be awesome! Cheers
Some experimental percussion patches.

Tell me if the link doesn't work. Never used sharing with google drive before.
Downloaded no problem thank you!
I'll check them out now...

This is about the best I've come up with so far, i really need to import some noise and drum samples from the Tempest i think. Thorn needs more noise options. Anyone know if it's possible to detach the noise oscillator from the main EG and trigger it with one of the other envelopes?

I liked the sound of Diversion but I could never wrap my head around its workflow. I just tried the demo of Thor and it was an instant buy. Love it! Very interesting functions built into it.

ok this one is probably a bit better (see attached file)...
DRUM Snare Oh Snap.thorn.zip
some things kinda starting to annoy me now...

need copy + paste across all instances
allow individual oscilltors to bypass effects, or feed to a specific effect in the chain?
needs PRE filter on distortion, OR for the mix knob to come after POST filters

Sounds nice! :tu: Is it all Thorn?

Am I the only one who thinks that Thorn's factory presets could be much better? I don't use presets much but the factory presets often give a first impression of the synth which in case of Thorn is not very favourable. Very few of them use the harmonic filter and without it the oscillators sound painfully bright.

All Thorn except drums, compression and reverbs (I use convolution reverbs for sound shaping a lot, as well as delays). I ususally start with programming drum sounds, but here I only took the reals synth sounds.

I don't use presets except as a starting point, but I have to agree, the presets do not do the synth justice.

I mean the synth sounds in your track are great! What I said about the factory presets had nothing to do with your track.

I also rarely use presets, but when I download a demo of a new synth I start with browsing the factory bank just to hear what the synth may be capable of. In case of Thorn I almost uninstalled it after hearing few of these ear-piercing plucks. Only because I have Divesrion and I love its sound I decided to play with Thorn further.

Hi,

I have written a review for Thorn here:

http://www.kvraudio.com/product/thorn-b ... es/reviews

Dmitry is currently looking into some of the bugs I have found, all minor stuff so far. There are also some features, such as a Constant parameter for the matrix, that hopefully are upcoming in the next release. He is such a nice fellow, and Thorn seems to be a work of love for him.

I really like the UI, it is as if everything sits where I would like to have it, workflow is even faster than with Hive. I currently give 8/10 points as the whole offer is very good, but I have found that Thorn uses a little bit more CPU than I would like to see for a synth without audio rate modulation overall, otherwise it would be 9/10. I do like to use one synth as my drum sound provider, and Thorn would have to be at least twice as economical to take up this role on my laptop based production system. For everything else, I will use it now, as the glitch sequencer brings something completely new to my music.

Nice and thorough review ZaBong. Just one thing to note, I seem to remember that you can use the noise OSC as FM input for OSC 3.

@Zabong, thanks for your thoughtful review, a rarity in these here parts.

A few thoughts on Thorn:

First off, a definite case of love at first sight. When I made my first patch, a great big stupid smile appeared on my face and I was a goner. That said:

- I've already said this elsewhere, but the distortion module needs to be more subtle. It's the same with Tantra, just enabling it distorts the sound right away. Sometimes, I'd like just a touch of subtle tube distortion, and that's just not possible with it the way it is. Setting the mix knob down low is not enough.

- I'm not a huge fan of the envelope curves (especially on pads with slow attacks). Please make them editable! Yes, there are workarounds, but instant curve editing would be much better.

- It would be great if the harmonic filter could be bypassed selectively.

- Give us 32 voices at least! Nobody is forced to use them, but I find the voice cutting too obvious on some patches with 16 voices.

- Don't know if this is in the cards, but a tape-style delay with automatable delay times would be awesome.

- Some have been criticizing the factory bank. Can't say I agree, I find most of these sounds really well designed and usable. Most don't really exploit the wonky and experimental side of Thorn, but that's fine with me. I can do that.

- I'm getting frequent crashes in Reaper when editing the harmonic filter (and playing simultaneously). Given that Dmitry is very dedicated, I'm sure this will be taken care of.

Anyhoo, having a ton of fun. I was getting a bit bored by synthesis recently, but Thorn is a real shot in the arm.

Any word on free running LFO's in the matrix, which you also mention in your review?
Two LFO's is not that many for a modern synth.
