You should drop samples from the outside on the left side (the keyboard area).
To the database you should only add shortcuts to the directories in which you keep your samples/presets, not the samples themselves. For example, if you store your samples in c:\samples, right-drag that directory using windows explorer to the database\samples and select "create shortcut" from the menu.

Too bad development has been discontinued for SC2. As an owner of SC I was really hoping for it. Guess I'll have to try out how well the alpha works for me now.
Will Surge be integrated with Ableton the same way Z3ta was with Cakewalk?

How good is the SFZ import? It recognizes all the specification or only the basic?
Interesting that developer is here answering questions. Other times i see things other time paid released as freeware, most times the developer has the attitude "well, dont bother me more about this thing, i dont care anymore"

Huge thanks to Vember Audio. I always wanted this plugin for it's feature set, qualitu and GUI but couldn't justify the cost as eXT has a sampler included.
This gift really made me happy, I hope all the best to you.

HI
I purchased both Surge and SC some time back.
I remember someone (Sickle666?) saying how much SC looked like a spreadsheet!
Perhaps this was part of the problem with sales: the thing just looked plain ugly!
Of course all those who have now got a freebie will probably not be too concerned by the looks and in all honesty neither was I when I forked out quite some money for it: SC is a very creative program.
A real shame that the development has stopped though - I wonder if a GB or sale might have kickstarted the developers interests?
A hundered sales at $20 would have amounted to a few weeks pay and perhaps a similar upgrade pricing to V2 might have made it all seem worthwhile?
IMO even a graphical rehash to V1 may have boosted sales ... who knows?
Lot's of question marks!
What with Phrazor (which I also own) and now SC it does make you consider just how fragile the whole software development thing is.
I have several other app's that have gone a similar way over the years: to be fair in many cases I have and continue to get good usage out of these programs, so I am not complaining.
Perhaps even turning the app over to someone else might have benefitted the owners of the program: as in the Sonicbytes fiasco.
Anyways, making computer based noises for little or no outlay (bar the computer ... perhaps) certainly is not the issue anymore.

This sampler is great! Very nice. Thanks very much.
Answering myself: it dont use all the sfz format, at least the keyswitching section is ignored.marce wrote:How good is the SFZ import? It recognizes all the specification or only the basic?"

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Thanks Jens - so it's all done in windows explorer, and not the plug-in itself.jens wrote:Resonance wrote:I can't get anything to load into SC2.
I can right-click and drag folders from explorer to my heart's content but no menu appears for adding a shortcut, and nothing happens... This is in Reaper 2.010.![]()
What am I doing wrong?
In the folder you installed SC2 to there's the folder 'database' containing two subfolders: 'patches' and 'samples'
'Patches' is where the references to your sample-programs go to and 'samples' is where the references to your .wavs go to.
You can add references by right-clicking and dragging the original folders and then chosing 'add shortcut here' from the explorer-menu which pops up when you drop them.
After you have added new references you need to refresh the database - you can do this by right-clicking in SC2's browser (using the included .exe doesn't work here and makes SC2 crashing my hosts).
I'll give that a try.

Shortcircuit looks fantastic but I am having problems with both versions
If I load SFZ files into shortcircuit1 the CPU jumps to 90% when I play the first voice and then drops to around 40% once the sample has finsished. If I play any other notes after that then I get no audio output. I created the SFZ using chicken systems translator and it plays fine in DiscoDSP Highlife. Interestingly, if I load my SFZ in highlife then export a fresh version of the SFZ from highlife and load it shortcircuit then shortcircuit just plays back high pitched noise.
If I set up any links in the patches folder for SC2 then I get an exception error when I try and load the plugin. Without any links to patches the plugin loads but I can't get any output so I can't use either version
Tried this in eXT1, eXT2, Live demo and Podium and the same happens in all

Too bad the development will stop, I will suggest not to give up since the guy is a neat programmer. Maybe the fact is tha SC is simply not enough "appealing". It's too damn serious interface, even more serious than DirectWave! I plan to install the freeware and see if the technical side is good. Surely it is!!! Very sorry!!
Damn Kontakt!!!!!!!

Well, remember he said that development might continue if there is a strong user-base. So all is not lost.
It'll be nice to have a new sampler to recommend to people looking for free options.
