Hive receives on all MIDI channels. It's commonly a feature of the host to assign a MDI channel to a certain track.Tony Ostinato wrote:trying out hive for my live setup, is there a way to set midi input channel?

I like the more subtle sounds it makes, for instance classic background pads like on MJ's Thriller album. I am not sure what hardware they used back then (I think they had the CS80 available if I remember the sleeve correctly, but also the Emulator and what not), but I can get very very close with Hive
It also shines with polished Jupiter 8 pads (as used by Talk Talk, Kajagoogoo etc.).
I get them out of Sylenth1 as well, but the modulation options really make the difference, making something like filter decay vary with velocity allows for much more expressive and organic playing, especially with DAW-based music, which tends to sound a bit stiff and regular.
Like with Sylenth and Element, the EQ is also key, without it all three sound much less appealing, but with the EQ they sound professional, not so much like hardware as such, but as heard on records, i.e. outsourcing the mixing to the synth to a certain degree

Since one can use the mouse wheel to set parameters, obviously the controls notice when the mouse pointer is above them and when it isn't. So I would find it better if the currently manipulated parameter value were displayed until one moves the mouse away. Currently the display switches back to the patch name after two seconds or so, as if that were of any interest when tweaking...

it always in omni mode??
not gonna work in my setup. i use it like a live rack and i need channel assign.
any chance it could be added?

You can add a MIDI filter before it and filter all channels except the one you need...

this is the first time ive noticed diva doesnt either.
its a weird thing and nobody else is gonna have this problem so obnoxiously. i use wx5 windsynth as a controller and i run thru midichords to make it polyphonic and route it to vstis and i had all of "party rock anthem" mapped in with albino doing 3 layers at a time and id switch between 3 presets to cover the 7 sounds i was covering.
switching presets while reading charts really sucks so i figured id add in low cpu hive this week and cover those other sounds.
but yeah it wasnt quite that easy. i was gonna put like 2 or 3 of them on one track with channels from a midichords mapping blah blah blah but yeah between not having channel input assign its best to use just one. just ended up being more work.
still i thought id be overloading my loadout already, im running 11 vsti's at a 64 sample buffer, but its been ok so far, so hive is delivering on its low cpu yet good sound promise. that bodes well for other electronic dance ill need to cover in the future.

I have noticed a wired thing with Hive, it's coming a white noise in the background for 5 seconds, its comes back and go. Has anyone here experience this?
Ps. I use Logic pro x

Yes demo version and I don't understand why those who making VST/AU charge so much it should cost not more than 50 Euro. If there wasn't for the price then more people would buy it rather than use demo or cracked version.

Reveal Sound Spire costs $189 dollars.
Xfer Serum costs the same thing.
Omnisphere 2? you don't wanna know.
Hive costs 150...but it was 100 dollars for *months*, including the RC version not that long ago...
EDIT: It's been kind of quiet around here! everyone's keeping busy

All u-he synths/plugins are in omni mode all the time. As mentioned, use a MIDI filter before them. Is that such a big problem?
That said, I think Hive and Diva (and Bazille) support note-per-channel thing, where each note of polyphony is being received on its own MIDI channel, so you can use controllers (pitch bend, CCs) individually for each note.

you know, arturia stuff, kontakt, wivi, but yeah that seems to be going away...this is makin me feel old..
and now im onto the next problem, i tryin to fill my midi programs bank so i can select sounds via midi for songs and stuff and i have a preset that seems stuck , delete it from dir, make sure its not hidden as junk etc but it keeps coming back.
ive searched the dirs and deleted it and yet it keeps coming back seemingly from nowhere.

I guess it is mostly plugins that are multi-timbral.
All the old Superwave synths as well, of which the Performer (similar double synth line architecture as Hive or Sylenth) was also more or less multi-timbral, i.e. each synth line could have its own Midi channel.
