Thanks for your help. FYI, it says track not found. Is it set to private? I think you have to give a specific link for that maybe..The Sound Of Merlin wrote: Sun Mar 06, 2022 5:02 pm https://soundcloud.com/thesoundofmerlin ... -140-ideas
Some chord ideas without melody.
It's still enormously syrupy sweet. I have played 4 rounds of Ab Major, Bb Minor, Eb Major. Numbers 3 and 4 are harmonically a bit more complicated but still they follow the same scheme. Melody should fit I think.
If I play it btw just without the chords, just the harp and ocean noise and all F sharps, I LOVE it. So I definitely want to find a way to make it work.

Combine that with listening to a lot of microtonal music and look what happens!

if you take a major scale and flatten the seventh you get mixolydian. lydian is a step in the other direction, with a sharp fourth. either is of course perfectly valid to compose in, try to not fall into the trap of using music theory prescriptively.
i like both versions. maybe see if you can alternate them in an aba structure?

Oops, you're right about myxolydian. I mixed them up in one of my former posts.

Is anyone else having problems with pitchbend? I have recorded a track with PB's, right channel, bend set to 2, autobend off . I just don't get any picthbend on any patch ...
DAW Reaper. Never had a problem like this before.

1. I greatly appreciate your help. I really do.
2. It sounds great, I mean, for like a certain type of movie. You're very skilled. I really like your entry for both last month and this month by the way.
3. It's just not for me. The feel of the original is gone.
I think I really like the left and right hand as I originally had it. It's just the pad chords that are problematic to me. And they have a very slow attack/release so I can't quickly change them to avoid dissonances. I will think about it for a while.
Emikaela,
thanks.

Thanks. I went back and replaced one C note that was repeating for a couple pads with an E flat. And that fixes what was bothering me about this; the bit of dissonance that would swell up periodically from the very slow attack pad. With that one thing fixed... this is one of the very best things I ever wrote IMO, of over 15 years, 200 or so tracks... But I respect Merlin's opinion and he was referring to greater issues so, I don't know. I already know my tastes in music are sometimes out there. I don't really want to be an outsider artist. But I love exactly like this:(deleted. It's like my ears keep hearing differently. Unhappy with the mix )Aro wrote: Sun Mar 06, 2022 8:43 pm @empphyrio its great that you tried on someone else's opinion, but ultimately its your ears and its your art!
Now I'll stop going on about it. Sorry for hogging up a couple pages of the thread.

If I remember correctly the first track that I recall commenting on of yours was about your interesting choice of chords. I'm not very good at naming chords, but I know they weren't diatonic, and I found your choice very pleasing and intriguing.

have you checked the BEND parameter "66" of the preset you are using? Could be initially set to zero i.e. "No Bending"...
Cheers, Björn

Yes, I did check all those things. Using the brass preset from initial load.
I just checked the VST2 version, and that works fine ... has to be the way Reaper is handing the VST3 version I guess.
Perhaps you need to check PB on the VST3 version - shame if it's just Reaper - if it is I'll bug report it.
Cheers, and thanks again for taking the time to respond.

Works fine here with the VST3i version too (Reaper 6.50, VstHost, ...)
What version do you have? The latest 1.1.1?
