8.1 is out

Great update. Attack Compensation for Sound Variations is huge. Updates to the score editor was a pleasant surprise as well.

Seems to be plenty in there for a point release.

But still waiting for one single feature that would be (for me) an improvement on v6. They've doubled-down on providing a one stop shop for people new to production and mixing and unfortunately that's not where I'm at.

So, they released 8.1.
And somehow the biggest feature for me is this:
Improved middle-click behavior for 3-button mouse
The middle button of a 3-button mouse now defaults to horizontal and vertical scrolling instead of
opening the tool picker:
• Click + swipe left/right = scroll view horizontally
• Click + swipe up/down = scroll view vertically
• On ruler: click + swipe = limit panning to horizontal only (no zooming)
I was using a little plugin for this. Glad to see it works natively now. Hope it's working well. Haven't tested it yet.

Also, they added support for Motion controllers. I assume they will be available this week. (which is (very) late spring, as they promised, yay!)

The time offset for articulations looks *very* nice (I love that feature in DP and Cubase), as does the "shared virtual instruments" feature (looks like V-Racks from DP, but better?)

And the score editor improvements also look OK. (I rarely use score editing, though.)

Lots of fixes and tweaks, which is good. Don't really care for any of the other new features. Lots of AI bloat, but it looks like most of it is done by connecting to remote servers, so it can be blocked by staying offline.

Well, not that it matters for me, right now. I'm stuck on 7.2, because, for whatever reason, they raised the minimum Mac OS requirement to 13.5 for Fender Studio 8.x and later. I'll have a new studio computer in a few months, so I'll be able to use 8.x then. Looking forward to it, mostly :P

Nothing very great from where I'm sitting.

A new BETA release of an AI help window, if you pay monthly.
New AI paint by numbers "creativity" in the form of Moises, that is just third party bloat that costs extra.

I wish they would just make the actual DAW better.
Like implementing auto-colouring of chords on the chord track, which I've been waiting for forever. Colouring them is tedious as hell.

The best things added to studio one always seem to be coming from Lukas and not the Studio One people.

Also, it would be great if dragging a clip with tablature didn't completely reset the tab numbers, which has been a problem since tab was introduced.

Not sure about the moises integration

The Studio Assistant sounds cool but it's paywalled behind the subscription ? - Studio Assistant is now available as a public beta for Fender Studio Pro+ users according to this press release - https://www.prnewswire.com/news-release ... 94510.html

Rest of the additions are okay I guess, don't see anything to get me to upgrade from 7.0 though

Haven’t used studio one in a bit but switched to the Roli piano as my midi controller went to add it in 8.1 I clicked enable mpe and then the drop downs for midi receive and send went blank and there were no midi controllers in my drop down.
Bitwig 6 • Diva, Dune, Serum, and UVI Falcon are my Daily Drivers • Drum Machines • Harrison 32c + DSM 3 + American Class A Enjoyer • Apple M4 Max • Apollo User • DJ • Dance Music is life

Oh well, I'm not subscribing to anything.

Quick question for those of you on v7 or v8 - have they improved the scaling of the automation lanes? One thing that constantly irritates me is that the automation lanes are always scaled from 0 to max value so if you're trying to create automation with small differences then you have to massively zoom the window to be able to see what you're doing. And even then it can be tough.

I'm fairly sure this wasn't improved on v7 (I had the demo for a while) but maybe somebody can confirm if v7 and/or v8 fixed this?

OK so why add a Studio Assistant button if it doesn't work? - I want to delete the button but it's not in the customise options

I'm still on 7.2 and that seems to be the case. I guess I've never run into this situation. If you don't ever need the automation to go outside of the limited range you're editing in, one thing you could try doing is using macro assignments with a modified range map:

Thanks for that. Just to clarify I mean the automation lanes in the arranger view (when you hit A or shift A)
