Hey...

I'm looking for a Synth that can produce really dark, heavy sounding bass lines in the vein of Calyx, Spor, Ewun, Black Sun Empire etc... Or to get these type of bass lines is it more to do with adding effects?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

its more common to sample a synth bass (no multisample) and load it in a sophisticated sampler and apply loads of sampling techniques(loop point modulation, layering, etc.).
audio fx are crucial too (distortion, bass-eq, compression, etc.).

as a source you should take a vsti that already has a very fat bass, like vaz modular or korg ms20.
for a synth-only option also check stillwell olga. quite a beast. mainliner alone did not work out for me to produce state-of-the-art d+b basses.

i' not being a smart ass but the majority of those sounds you hear and like in DNB can be made with any VA with 2 osc.(i prefer 3 and sub) also Multi band distortion is KEY. distorting the mid and leaving the low intact... :)

may i suggest PlastiCZ to start off with i will supply you with an FXP of a 'reese' for free of charge.

that is a very tutorial but Z3TA+ may be a bit much to start off with and in the end become discouraging. :)

*side note* i can remember in highschool i went from a micromoog to a Prophecy and i became depressed and overwhelmed becuase of the learning curve.

*sidenote2*

since when did everyone get so helpful and nice! i can remember asking similar questions years back and getting laughed off the boards! information like this used to be a carefully guarded secret!! :x
