Why are you crying, were you actually planning to buy it? I wouldn't worry, I'm sure you could find one new or used in mint condition. As for people (who don't even own it) saying nonsense like "I'd be really disappointed if I spent 8 grand on that instrument, myself, to see this happen so soon.", why the hell would anyone be disappointed when they have one of the most advanced synths in the world? Is it going to spontaneously vaporize now? I guess they're too used to updating their crappy PC applications every few days.

So passes Denethor, son of Ecthelion...and the last still-in-production hardware synth holding the torch for vector synthesis and wave sequencing that I'm aware of. ("Abandon your posts! Fleeeeeee for your liiiiiives....!")

I guess it does open the way to split those synthesis approaches back into a separate, more affordable instrument again - a radically updated "Wavestation MKII" type synth - but I won't hold my breath waiting to see that happen.

You can do wavesequencing and vector synthesis on the M3 too, there are demo videos showing how. I don't own it myself but I have seen and heard it.

As for the Oasys, I was wondering how long it would last. At that price only a handful of performers will afford it, so sales will be comparatively low, and, I think given the tech development costs, so will the margins. This is a real business that has to turn a profit after all...

But wavesequencing and the other technologies used in the Oasys will appear in other instruments down the line. Korg has always been a very innovative company, so I am not worried.

A Wavestation Mark II would indeed be yummy, as would a Z1 Mark 2... Korg, are you listening?

It was doomed from the start. Who in their right mind is going to buy an 8,000 synth that does nothing new?

i saw that one coming a mile away... But in trueKorg fashion, they did it and now some new gear will be the result. The M50 is actually quite good for the money, as is the M3... So we will see...
I am not a robot. You are a robot.

or how about integrating the Z1 engine with an upgraded Wavestation engine (w/ resonant filters, WAV import, and resampling). :-o

Ooooh! Real ANALOG filters, dual step sequencers (like on the Radias) and then loopable envelopes thrown in for good measure. Crown the whole thing with a full-color touchscreen (technology from the Oasys) and I will be willing to part with my wife's jewelry.

Possibly I'd keep her jewellery and part with the wife for something like that.

I don't get the crying either. Everyone knows digital synths have a shorter production span, but that doesn't mean they'll stop working. I own a Wavestation A/D and except for the LCD screen which is now relatively dim, it's in perfect working condition and there's no reason why it wouldn't last another 10 years. Now that I think about it, practically all of the synths I own are out of production. Boo hoo.

In any case, I'm sure the R&D resources used for the Oasys were well spent. Those developments gave way to things like the Radias, R3, M3, M50 and microKorg XL, and probably a bunch of other synths to come.

Yeah, it's super expensive. My music partner is selling his for around $4,000.

If you're in the US, $4000 second hand in good condition offered right here. The cheapest price I've seen. Enjoy.
