John Carpenter: what are the synths he used for his movie scores?

Anything about MUSIC but doesn't fit into the forums above.

Hi,

I recently listened to some John Carpenter's movie scores (Halloween, Escape from NY, Assault on Precinct 13, Prince of Darkness, ...), and I think they sound really great!!!

Do you know what gear Carpenter used to use when he created his music?

Thanks for your replies!

His main synths were the Prophet 5 & 10 IIRC both rev with SSM chips instead of the CEM chips the later models have though i could remember that wrong. His early work was pretty much those 2 and an Arp Avatar or two. He used the ARP Quadra as well at some point. Later work was pretty much all that was available most notably a Synclavier and Prophet VS (before it was released he got his hands on a pre production model).

Read all about it here: http://www.vintagesynth.com/forum/viewt ... =1&t=55060
