It has only 8 velocities, but plays beautifully in sfz.
has anyone removed the unused samples? would that pack be redistributable?

Hi rytmenpinne.
I registered only to thank you.
I was previously using the free Maestro GIG library but I've found your piano sounds even better and doesn't require reverb.
Also, I only have 768MB RAM and somehow Linuxsampler manage to stream the 1.8GB SFZ on time while I sometime had lags with the 1GB Maestro.

**Gratifying update** I'm happy to tell you that linuxsampler now offer automatic builds of their svn version so now you too can use this piano without hassle

All pianos require reverb :D

This sample is amazing!! It's one of the best sounding virtual pianos I've heard. It deserves much more attention.

Thank you so much.

I do believe the piano was a little bit out of tune when you recorded the samples? This is especially noticable on the D#6 samples, which contains some annoying overtones. I solved this by just pitchshifting the C6 samples to D#6, which worked perfectly.

Also, "D#7v9.wav" lacks mapping, which I solved by adding the following to the .sfz file:
<region>
sample=48khz24bit\D#7v9.wav
lokey=98
hikey=100
lovel=65
hivel=72
pitch_keycenter=99

Here's a rendering of the MIDI-file Jordan Rudess - Grand Illusion:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2425456/Jordan_ ... lusion.mp3

I reduced the bass a little bit by using eq and added a slight reverb.

I also changed the sfz with the following settings:
amp_veltrack=20
ampeg_release=1.000

The first command reduces dynamics which allows such a varied song as Grand Illusion to be played without the volume being too uneven. The second command makes the key release a little bit longer, which I felt was more realistic.

I think the result is stunning. Thanks again for the best free virtual piano I've come across.

Nice! I haven't had a listen to my piano for a while now and that sounds so much better than I remembered :D I guess variation is the key :) I've actually been working on a third version I've stalled on the progress tho do to lack of time and motivation, I might try to finish it soon tho it's actully just the bussiness of repacking that's left.

also, setting ampeg_release to 1.000 just happens to be one of the things I've changed ;) another change that you who edit sfz will be happy about is that I've removed all rowchanges after every opcode, so the file is 100times more readable :) (thank you clever commands of the vim texteditor)

Hi, I thought I saw somewhere that I needed to download an additional PedalD3.wav file, but I can't find it. I loaded the piano into the EXS24 and it works, but I am wondering if I still need this file. When it loads the wav's it tells me it can't find the PedalD3.wav file.

Nope, you should'nt need it, at least not for version 2.. if you are shure you got version 2 of both the sfz and the samples. You could open the sfz file and comment out the row that has 'PedlaD3.wav.' in it...

Hmm, now that I think about I belive I've released a version 3 of this thing :D (I'm unbelievably disorganized ;P)

Yes! here it is, It's just an update pack.. Simply copy and replace all files. The biggest changes is the layout of the sfz file, I've removed all rowchanges that sfZed made so it should be 100 times more readable now.(thank you wonders of wim text editor) There's a retuned version by Markus Fiedler, He also has some other really great free sample libraries, I'm very fond of the natural concert guitar, check it out.. it's all in german tho :P http://terzmagazin.de/terz/creative-commons-libraries (if you want you can also give me money ;D)

So what is the best choice ? The version from Markus's site or your update ?

Apart from that, Salamander is really a great goto piano, easy to tweak and enhance with good effects.
You can't always get what you waaaant...

I'm confused to be honest. I am using this with the EXS24. Upon one of the attempts to load it, I did get it to make sound, but since then, it won't make a sound. It loads into the EXS24 using the .exs but doesn't make a sound. I don't really know what to do with the sfz files. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

They're pretty much the same, the retuning takes part in the .sfz file, I believe he also fixed some delays in some samples on his own.. I've also inlcuded his .sfz file in the update package.

I don't know who made the exs mappings so I really can't help you with this, As I've said earlier I've only been able to optimize it for linuxsampler, wich btw is also available for windows.. People are ofcourse very much welcome to make different mappings for different applications. So.. get linuxsampler and load the .sfz file :)
