Interesting synth for this month's challenge. We played around a bit, but could't activate V2's internal channel 16 for speech synthesis. Our host is Reaper. Any hints?

Below is a quote from the synth vote thread which I put here for further discussion since this gossip thread is a sticky and easier for others to find:

I would have to figure out how to get it to work again (something like using channel 16)
Yes the speech synth will be allowed, and I think using ch 16 is the trick although i didn't get it to work when i tried.
I succeded on make the speech synth to "speak", using the multitimbral version, by assigning ch 16 as default midi in, and shutting off the current patch (osc1, 2 and 3 to off) but it pronounces only the consonants!
A trick to make it speak properly could be to assign a patch to the ch 16. To do this, I tried to click, double-click, triple click, right-click, shift-click, [what you want]-click (!) the patch labels on the top multitimbral panel, but with no result.

Any ideas? Did anyone of you get it to work?
Also got as far as you by using ch 16 in the multi-timbral version, but mostly consonants here too. Changing patches on channels other than 1 can't be done from the synth, but only works with an old-fashioned program change message from a midi track.

Make sure you are using the multi version of V2 and load this as first plugin in the chain: 'JS: whatsup/MIDI_Tool.reaplg' - then set 'Target channel' to 16.

Patch that works best is an 'init', so set program change to 127

Thank you so much, V'ger!

We did as you suggested and although we got some rather crude results on the first try it definitely sounded like speech. Next month is gonna be fun! :D

Same here, with a big headache! The beast is very difficult to synchronize, as it skips some phonemes.

As Farbrausch says on the site:

"the totally incomprehensible but uber-sexy singing V2 speech synth, featured in Candytron"

Here's Candytron: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svGk_pF67gc
So it should work in a way, but we shouldn't expect clear speech.. :P

A tip for Reaper users is that to automate parameters with V2, it wont work to just write arm the track and move a knob in V2 like you normally do for some reason, you have to get the parameter as track envelope or track control (knob) manually by clicking the 'param' button and > 'FX parameter list'.

Thanks for the advice, I'm using it with Reaper 4 Beta right now, and it's crashing a lot when I try to automate some parameters, and I haven't been able to make it talk...yet. :P Everytime I move the knob for the speech phrases it freezes Reaper.

It's like this synth is possessed by Satan.

If anybody can make it sing or talk please share the trick with us...Until now I have only made it freeze, puke or laugh at me. :help:

Hey guys. Does this synth have presets or do we have to program all our sounds with it?

Have about 128 built-in presets, and also you can download other 128 from KVR banks.

Good luck :)
