The Ambient Online Compilation: Volume 4 has just been released. Here is my contribution to the album. This track was put together over a few hours a couple of weeks ago, and then mixed a week later. The only difference between this and the album version is in the mastering. I've gone with a minimal mastering chain again, and deliberately kept the levels low, although I think Soundcloud transcoding may involve some normalisation.

The full album may be found here:-

https://ambientonline.bandcamp.com/albu ... n-volume-4

At $9.99 this represents excellent value, featuring 88 tracks, provided by the members of AmbientOnline, and clocking in at almost 13 hours!

Bits and bobs:-

Recorded and Mixed in EnergyXT2.7
Mastered in T-Racks 3

FMERA 2
Breeze
Stereoizer 3
Satin
T-Racks Linear Phase EQ
T-Racks Vintage Equalizer

DR - 11

EDIT:20220909 - I remixed it in April 2022. I made a few sonic changes to the mix. I changed the reverb setup to take advantage of EnergyXT's modular routing, improved the EQ settings, and sorted out a panning issue in one instance of FMERA2, and removed the Stereoizer from the master bus. I mastered it using a simple chain consisting of 2 EQ processors.

Recorded and mixed in EnergyXT 2.7
Mastered in T-Racks 5

FMERA 2

DR - 11

EDIT:20250118 - almost 10 years later, also on YouTube as a static video

Thanks very much for listening and commenting, John. Glad you liked it :)

I've used this synth before, it keeps calling me back. I have plans to use it again, but in a duet with a lady :o

I have sounds/synths like that too that I just have to use.
Look forward to hearing the duet! :o

A work of somber and austere beauty. It's constructed sort of like an ambient string quartet - just a few voices very slowly weaving their parts.

This sort of quiet music works best for me late at night before going to sleep. On my third listen, I'm feeling very relaxed and kind of sleepy.

Nice sound design. The mix is good. :tu:

Good night.

It may not be a duet in the traditional sense

I used to have problems reining in the urge to add more and more parts to a track. It seems to have become easier to resist that urge over the last year, or maybe I just got a little lazier.

I think I'm heading off to bed now.

Nice and drifty, a bit of a lament in there amid the expanse, maybe. I love ambient and drone music. Thanks for sharing it.

Definitely a late evening wind-down track. Enough detail to keep your attention, but nothing jarring.
It wasn't me! (well, actually, it probably was) - apparently no longer an 'elderly', now a 'senior'! Is that promotion?

Congratulations on the inclusion, well deserved indeed.

Very gentle and pastoral.

Subtle complex undertones and tension.

Enjoyed it completely!

Gorgeous piece Tim, really hits an emotional button with me, thoroughly enjoyed this! :)

Nice. I particularly liked the short dissonances of overlapping notes, but then again, I'm a bit of a sucker for the minor 2nd.
