Wow! That`s one amazing collection.
I fondly remember many of them, and some I dloaded again.
Can`t KVR add this collection to their sticky or make this a sticky?
I assume the majority of these, once for sale,are NOT demos. I noticed that 'Chainer' was, and is still available for sale. ( I own it anyway, but was just curious.)

Well, I would wait till I cleaned all 800+ pages. I will need psychological assistance after that for sure, but I'm musician and I say it MUST be "safed" for the future as good as possible. The original post started may 2007, meanwhile many lost stuff came out of the ashes again.

I am struggling to understand this website. The majority of serious users/musicians/producers are proponents of 64 bit DAWs and plugins, yet so much effort is being put into archiving "gems" from the past. It is obviously a fact that these plugins are overwhelmingly 32 bit. If 64 bit is driving current and future music production what is the point of collecting antiques? Are people using these plugins? Are they running a separate kit to do so? Is this some form of nostalgia? If these plugins are considered inferior due to being 32 bit why bother? Personally I have no issue with 32 bit plugins, but many here discriminate based on whether a plugin is available in 64 bit. I don't get it.

I use 32 bit plugins in 32 bit DAWs here. Heck, someone else said that they were using an old Amiga still
So anything is possible

I agree with you in this particular regard: it's not whether it's 32- or 64-bit. It's how effectively and efficiently the plugin does what it's supposed to do. Is it free from self-noise, aliasing and artifacts? Is it crash-proof (meaning, does it avoid putting a strain on the DAW's resources)? Does it avoid eating up CPU processing power?

The final two big ones for me -- Does it sound good? And since my budget is small to say the least, is it free? Free as in, "costs no money", "open source", and "no awkward encryption/copy protection".

I've found several ghostware and open-source freeware plugins that fulfill these criteria. I've no interest in what 'the majority of serious music creators' do, since there's so many people that fall under that category, and they all use different things to make their music... even analog tape, and pieces of hardware outboard equipment that cost more than my annual rent.

It's clear what this thread (and KVR in general) does for me: it helps me to get the job done. I still have to work, but I'm getting the right tools to make the work go faster.

And yes: It's about kind of nostalgica. The original Old Gems thread dreaddd opend was ment to recover/show some goodies from the past that are rare, discontinued, disappeared. As you see it's 800+ pages now, other people was thinking the same.

And yes: There is no reason to ignore proper coded 32bit plugins. Maybe it will run also on 128bit in the future.

Thinking about the Mellotron, Artefake_Labs did the best job to build up a Mellotron VST that really sound near to the original and also enbedded all the "issues" of the original, like the clicksound, the pick-up head does when key is pressed and it has 1st contact with the tape.

Also there is really "just cool" stuff from the past like the nin!ja, Icecream & Jewel. This synths was rough, fun, did sound special or had an unusual workflow...
