Thanks Attila.
I decided to to a shorter version that's more focused on "getting started" and less on all the elaborate routing that's possible in Live. I'd suggest watching this one first, as it also shows how to record RC MIDI into Live. Here's the link:

I don't get rapid composer showing up as a midi port in Ableton Live at all, so this method doesn't work.
Is the only way to get this working properly on windows via LoopBE and using Standalone RC not the plugin version?
I can get Ableton Live to trigger RC Standalone to start play but it won't receive midi at all from any RC tracks.
This is a very confusing system to get working and debug on windows with Live, and I'm no noob to routing in live or reaper.

One small mod, I setup 2 virtual busses. IAC on mac and loopMidi on windows. 1 bus has start/stop out to RC and 1 bus has notes back from RC. I did this because I found the RC virtual midi bus to be unreliable. Probably something to do with the fact that RC has to be running for the Virtual Bus to appear and if you start/stop/crash RC Live is left in a somewhat unknown state since the VBus it was using just disappeared. Better to have separate software with a persistent VBus available.
Also, loopMidi is super dated, I think it's 32 bit, and why the eff does MS not provide something like this is beyond me.
