We are happy to finally unveil today Blue Cat's Plug'n Script 3.0, a new version of our audio & MIDI scripting plug-in. The user interface has been completely overhauled, with a new workflow and the ability to export your creations as independent VST plug-ins.

Image

The plug-in is available for purchase with 20% off until November 5th, while existing customers get an extra 10% discount (check your email!) during the same period. Upgrade is free for customers who purchased the plug-in since last update (April 2016), and previous customers will receive an upgrade offer (for a small fee) by email.

More details about the plug-in and demo downloads can be found on the Plug'n Script scripting plug-in page. Check out our blog to explore the new features of Plug'n Script V3.

Enjoy!

Great news.

One question though - what are the exact export formats? VST as in Windows/Osx VST? 32bit/64bit?

And another question - can one sell commercially plugins compiled with Plug'n Script?

Yes it does export a VST for MacOS (universal binary for both 32 and 64-bit) and two for Windows (32 and 64-bit), just like our own plug-ins:
User Manual wrote:Each time you build a new plug-in in the export window, if everything goes well, Plug'n Script will actually export 3 plug-ins, regardless of the platform you are currently running: a plug-in for Mac (both 32 and 64-bit), one for 32-bit windows, and a third one for 64-bit windows.

Each version will be exported in a different subfolder (Mac, Win-x64 and Win-x86). Yes, you can export a plug-in for Mac while running on Windows!
And you can of course sell the generated plug-ins, as long as you have the rights for the scripts and (optional) custom skins.
For example you cannot export the built-in scripts and sell them under you name :-).

Wow - sounds really impressive. Very tempted to buy! :tu:

(I'm one of these guys who thinks that they have genius plug-in ideas that no one thought about :hihi: - now I can test that )

Why don't you give a try to the demo? You can export VSTs with it too (they will just stop processing after 10 minutes, but that's probably enough to test your ideas with potential customers!)

To be honest $79/$99 is very reasonable - I will try to win the auction at Call to Arms Charity (thanks for participating), if I don't - will buy it for sure. Have a few simple MIDI scripts ideas to try out.

Wow great news !
The new specs are looking awesome :tu:

As an owner of the previous version, i am surely gonna buy it.
But if i may:

You really should do an overhaul to the way users can upload and download custom made scripts.
I mean , the whole github thing is so unattractive, untuitive and user unfriendly.
It's really for people who are rocket scientists imho.
Why oh why use that dreadful github ?

Make a dedicated corner on your site for custom made uploaded scripts, neatly sorted in audio and midi fx, with a clear description of what a script actually does.
Please BCA.

Warm Regards.

It says in the product description 'surround support (8 channels)'.

Is that an input limitation also? I'd like to build a mixer, and would love to have 32 or 64 input channels.... actually I'd need more than 8 outs too.
Custom 2-manual midi controller. VST hosting gui built in Usine Hollyhock. Ryzen 5900x Matx build, Touchscreen, RME UCX, windows server 2022, NI Komplete, Soundtoys, Synthmaster, Keyscape, Arturia, Byome, Unify.

Yes, we are aware the current solution is not optimal - we also need a way for people who are looking for scripts and people who can write them to get in touch in some way (we are getting many requests for scripts and we know there are many developers who would be happy to write them)... Any suggestion is of course welcome!

The current version is indeed limited to 9 ins / 16 outs (there is one more input for the side chain). That's indeed quite limited for a mixer, but how would you use such a plug-in? Most host applications do not support such a large number of I/O properly...

Thank you for your reply !
Well, as stated, can't you just built a dedicated corner on your website for scripts sharing ?
Features:

- search engine, to search scripts for specific words.
- easy upload ability
- easy download ablity
- a comment field where script uploaders can explain what their script is doing/how it works.
- catogorized script sections (midi fx, midi generators, audio fx etc etc).

As examples, take a look at the NI Reaktor user library community or the max4live devices community. :)

There's no 'just' here. Its a non-trivial task, requiring quite a lot of work, time effort and/or money to implement. Its a useful suggestion that there is one, but trivialising the effort it would take like that doesn't do anyone any favours.

Yeah, sounds like several thousand pounds worth of professional work from a web development specialist there. Or Blue Cat dropping any other work for several months while they refocus on a completely different set of technologies from their core audio DSP business....

The M4L one wasnt made by Ableton, though, so maybe you could 'just' do the work yourself?

Well, besides the upload feature* any Wordpress installation will cover all suggestions vanhaze listed.

*there are third party upload plugins for WP and you can even force the uploader to fill custom fields that can be used for tagging (needed for the search and automatic display/listing functions). Nonetheless uploading is a topic itself when thinking about security, spam and such issues.

But even this pre-made solutions need time to set it up, administrate it, fix issues, taking care for security, implement or at least answer user requests... so whyterabbyt is right with his remarks.

There is probably no need right now for such a level of sophistication, but we can indeed do better than what we currently have.
