Postby Gucky; Wed Mar 07, 2018 10:09 pm New version of "mystery lake" ; feedback welcome

Some months ago I made a Faber track called "mystery lake".
But I was never happy with the sound but I did not know what was wrong:
Today I tried to make a new mix. Now I noticed what was wrong:
I had much too much reverb on it. So I changed the reverb time from 7 sec to 3 sec and it sounds now better. I also made a new stereo panorama of the brass und corrected some brass notes in their position.
Here it is:

It will be released on my new Faber album "Monumentum" alt mellowjet.de in the next weeks.
Your feedback is welcome. :-)

This is definitely a cool production, has that cinematic vibe. I especially liked the flute sections and the 2nd half when you expanded on the rhythm section with the flute. When the horns come in though, it did seem like the low end was not able to match in power and kept the track from sounding as full as it should. Just my opinion and I am no expert :)

All in all, very nice, was good overall.

Hi JKillz,
thanks for your feedback.
It gaves me the idea to optimize the brass.
I added now brass in the lower end. I hope it sounds better now.
Your feedback is welcome. :-)

I've got a sub here so maybe eq off some bass a little bit on some parts. Otherwise cool and reminds me of a Western Movie with a bit of James Bond.

Hi winkie00,
thanks for your feedback.
I made a new version where I tamed the low ends of the brass.
Hope it is now better for you.

Creates a definite atmosphere - peaceful with a mystical, magical edge to it...good choice of sounds and some interesting melodic and harmonic content. It has that 'New Age' vibe for me.

Overall it works well, but certain aspects still seem a little bit clunky:

1st section: I think that there are notes in the bass part that could be improved when thinking about the implied harmonies above them. Nothing wrong with them as such, but for me, they're not always the best choices. Also, maybe that punchy bass sound is a bit to out in front of the mix compared with everything else? Would a softer sound be more appropriate?

A lot of the orchestral sounds are not that convincing - it's not the sounds themselves as such, but the lack of editing and automation...the lack of movement and subtle variation:
# Those sustained strings are very static.
# Brass - uses the same patch for both short and sustained notes.

Hi ChamMusic,
thanks for your feedback.
I take the pick bass in the first part in the front because it is a little tribute to the famous "twin peaks theme".
But you are right, a softer sound could be better.
You are also right with the orchestra part. It is not perfect. Unfortunately I have not a good brass sound with short and sustained sound together. But I will work on the song again in the future. :-)
At the moment I am making new songs.
Here is the one that I finished today: "Karelia"
