Went to download the latest version of Chipsounds and saw an advert for Chipsynth. Looks AMAZING but details seem to be thin on the ground, even on the official Plogue social media pages.
Anyone got any details?

These are supposedly due out this year but I don't think we've currently got a concrete release date or price. It looks like each release will concentrate on an individual sound chip rather than the full collection that Chipsounds does:

Ah, cool. So individual VSTs for the C64, SNES, Yamaha thingy, a Megadrive/Genesis, and FC (Famicon/NES?). Sounds dope, but I'm not entirely convinced off the bat that separates are worthwhile... Hope I'm wrong.
Plogue make great plugins, I'm sure these won't be any different.

Not trolling, what would anyone be able to add that differentiates a chip emulation in 2018? Just curious .. do we still have a ways to go in terms of emulation accuracy?

Some of the stuff in Chipsounds is sampled (e.g., SID). Fully (algorithmically) emulated would be nicer.
This isn't a limitation of Chipsounds, it's a limitation of DSP technology on commodity computers. Some audio-rate modulations take too much CPU to calculate for realtime playback. So yes, we have a ways to go.

Yup, Famicon (not Football Club, heh). That's supposed to be the first one. The Yamaha thingy is a DX7 emulation.humdingergravy wrote:Ah, cool. So individual VSTs for the C64, SNES, Yamaha thingy, a Megadrive/Genesis, and FC (Famicon/NES?).

Very interested in these. Right now I'm using these babies from SocaLabs , which are pretty nice (VST/AU 32/64bit, pure synthesis/no samples) and free

Hmm... I know they've mentioned something on Twitter about a bit-accurate DX7 emulation, back in 2016, but there's also a picture of a Yamaha YM2612 chip. So, it seems those would be two separate products.

PortaFM is based on the YM2413, a very low end 2 operator chip.
The chipsynth line are standalone VST/AU/AAX plugins far more accurate than chipsounds.

And according to this, PortaFM is scheduled for Q2, or at least it was back in January: https://twitter.com/chipsounds/status/9 ... 4250584064

Putting final touches on PortaFM. (YM2413/OPLL lofi 2OP FM synth, think PSS270/PSS140/SHS10)
We hope to release it in early May!(Mainly bug fixes and presets now).
The installer is 5MB on Windows. No sample in sight

Holy crap, haven't seen a pss270 since school - That's taken me right back !
So is PortaFM going to be released first, had always thought the FC one was going to be the debut as was the initial one advertised on the site

Yeah plans are what they are, meant to be shattered. Realized FC was a "bigger one" and some of the mappers took longer to reverse engineer exactly than others... that and well I created a hardware synth on the idea too.mcbpete wrote:Holy crap, haven't seen a pss270 since school - That's taken me right back !
