Making The Most Of Limited Space

...and how to do so...

If there is already a thread about this topic feel free to delete/merge this thread. I have only a bedroom/studio and each time I add a piece of hardware, it gets smaller and smaller so would like to see how you've made the most of your limited space.

An idea I've had marinating in my head for some time now, is getting rid of my single bed, and replacing it with a portable foldable massage table. I don't like the springs in my mattress anyhow, and have been sleeping on the living-room couch most days, to truth/conspiracy YT videos with the sleep-timer turned on.
If the padding on the massage table is not enough I could layer it with more foam or several layers of fitness mats. Kogan has one for $184 but also considering building one from plywood, hinges, and padding, or found materials people are trashing.
Also just thought of camping/sleeping mat on the floor, lol. But I would prefer the massage table.

It folds to a suitcase! :tu:

Or a chaise lounge, if light enough to drag inside and outside everyday. Is it possible to sleep on one of these?

Just by the substitution alone, versus a normal single bed, I would free enough space for a piano and a 19" rack. Not allowed to alter/damage the walls so I can't make a clever foldaway bed that goes back into a hole in the wall.

Here's another tip:
1. A few years ago, I found a roll of 3mm thick black kitchen liner at ALDI. It was only around $5. It's the stuff you line drawers with. Well, I've been using it for:

* Protective cover for my keyboards. Bubble wrap underneath for more protection.

* Can be used as isolation pads for your monitor speakers too.

* A portable fitness mat. Hasn't ripped or anything. I use it to cover the bench in a bodypump class as the gym-supplied mats are gross. Can be used for yoga, sit-ups, kneeling on. Fold it and hold it against your chest as a punching pad for your partner.

Great thread. I suggest a hammock.

Post

what about a raised bed with space underneath?
my other modular synth is a bugbrand

Hammock is no good. Don't think I'd find it comfortable, and may bring back a lower-back problem I've suffered before.

Raised bed: that's exactly what my brother has done and he has his PC workstation underneath. I'm not into it. And I would feel claustrophobic that close to the ceiling.

Great suggestions though, maybe not for me, but good for other people.

Changing bedclothes is a serious hassle.

Thin futon on the floor? Roll it up during the day. Leave it out in the sun or cold weather now and then.

I just sleep on the floor. I have a couple of quilts and a sleeping bag that I fold up when not in use. Saves tons of space and stops the room looking like a bedroom.

IANABackSpecialist but from my experience, if you have lower back pain then a massage table would be a real bad idea.

Gravity boots? ;)

Sleeping on the floor is great! :tu: Fantastic to rid you of back issues, after a small break-in period

I still the dig the massage suitcase. If I wasn't shopping for a WAV>Stems extractor I'd have it already.
Reminds me of an episode on Beyond 2000 where they had a sports car that could transform into a suitcase.
Searched in vain for that episode and only found a go-kart on Oprah. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzpk08KTquk It's pink. A woman invented that.

I suppose it could be fun taking bets with family and friends as to how many times a week you fall out of it :P

I like it for not so innocent reasons. First ever Amia Miley video I saw was on a massage table.

I don't know who Amia Miley is, but I hazard a guess that googling her is NSFW.
