Using Tracktion what is the best way to remove tape hiss when recording? Or, can this be done after I record, either way. Thanks

You are recording from tape, and there is hiss coming from the tape recorder directly; and you want to filter this out?
Or is the hiss similar to tape coming from some other source?

(PS - this isn't the hiss you hear periodically with an unregistered copy... ?)

You can often remove it in the 'silences' between sounds with a noise gate, and sometimes dampen it a bit with EQ, but ideally you want a broadband noise reduction process that can 'learn' the noise profile then globally remove it with minimal artefacting.

King of the hill for that is Izotope RX, but its kind of expensive.

The free audio editor Audacity has a similar tool built-in, though its not as good as RX.

( Tracktion itself doesnt, though.)

The best free option I've tried is ReaFir, usually does a good job provided the noise isn't massively loud;
