People are serious about their music, no wonder, music is a serious art, profession and business. However, when I listen to the many fine ideas and productions in the music cafe, I think it could be spiced up with some occasionally unseriousness: Silly tunes, Cartoonish tunes, Comedy, completely failed experiments or mixes. I bet it is hard to find in between your more ambitious tunes but here is a kind request for your unserious tunes if you got any.

I will start by posting a tune that by default was unserious and unambitious in all respects:

1) I was really testing whether music could be made on an iPod touch in 2010 by use of apps like Nanostudio, Sunrizer for iPhone and Rebirth for iPhone. Thus, the music did not really matter for other purposes than testing.

2) Since both Nanostudio and Rebirth sounded rather thin on iPod, I did not expect anything near pro sound but the opposite. The intermediating synth lines using Nanostudio’s Eden synth are a joke, really. You have to go back to early VSTi days to find anything as crappy.

3) Musically I wanted it to be an Acid caricature for the fun of it. Had never made anything like acid before so I just wanted to have a laugh over my own incompetence while testing.

4) The narrative playing behind my eyes when I made it was a cartoon like retro-sci-fi scenario from the 80s where I imagined a (Pre Sky-Net) artificial intelligence taking over the minds of children by virtue of controlling commodore 64 home computers.

So as unserious as can be. Yet, I made three other tunes in the same narrative to test other more or less underdeveloped iPad synths or studios anno 2010 such as the Beatmaker 2. Today, iPad productions can more easily compete with PC/MAC productions but I did not find myself able to do that at the time.
The voices on the tune are from the VOX3000 text to speak generator, iVoxel Vocoder/vocal phrase player and a sample I twisted (children).

Please post some of your own jokes and/or fails and tell about them if you want. If they are good for nothing else, then at least a smile or a laugh.

Blimey, where does one start....

RDonkelly is always a good place to start (the dirty bastard...)

and a bit of miserable goff with The Donkey of Mercy (I do still maintain that, "Jackson Pollock, what a load of bollocks" is a mighty fine lyric);

Used to do loads of this pisstake shite years ago when I had more time on me hands, and was more drunk. I think it's time for some more..

Hmm, well I have plenty of failed tunes - particularly in my younger years due to rubbish arrangements and non-existent mixing abilities.
However, this is probably the silliest (and cheesiest) tune I ever made, created about 15 years ago after a DJ friend left a message on my Nokia about a compilation album featuring giraffes I'd just done, which I then combined with some funky bass and percussion, and an extremely cheesey organ riff I played.

@DonkeyTugger - excellent selection of 'artistry' there!

For Donks and anyone else, are there any half decent sites (as opposed to a person's own webpage, which I don't have) where you can upload an MP3 track to be played on the internet please?
I still haven't figured this out - I'm a tad slow on the uptake... - so I have to rely on the more unwieldy looking Soundcloud instead.
Cheers

 You are already killing me. First I go: What? Fine beat, groovy bass and pro production, what is the catch? Oh, dear. Its brilliant. The other examples are beautiful too, I feel like go drinking bear with Donkey. Lots of them.

I would not recommend attempting that.
It's not easy to know how they may react. I haven't and would not try though.

Regarding unserious, silly or failed tunes, I have problems finding tracks that are not one or more of those things... I may post an example later.

This seems like fun, I'll play along :)

Anything in my SC account is not really serious, my setup consists of a 12 yr old computer, soundcard is same age, I use a €5 euro pair of speakers I bought from a dump/tip/dechetterie/skip running a €10 euro technics amp, I used to use Nuendo 2, 14 years of that before I finally upgraded to Reaper x64 as.it can host 32 bit plugs.
My midi input is via a not too great keyboard which has concrete for keys it seems. All of my tracks àre made with freeware and were mainly created for KVR One Synth Challenge,, in which I tend to come in the bottom 1/3 for the past 4 years.
I have recently started some OsC after hours stuff, again freeware, which I post in the Music Café and get some feedback from which I really do appreciate.

So you can tell, i take my music completely seriously :D

Oh well, wasn't going to do this but since you started this thread, what the heck.

This was done many years ago in my hardware studio in the days before I knew what EQ, compression and limiting was. I just cranked everything up to 10 and recorded. So turn your speakers down for this one. The song itself was a total joke about a friend of mine who we called hero of the stupid. He really was. The joke went viral among my group of friends and this became an instant classic for all of them, even hero himself.

In spite of the horrible recording, it's catchy as hell. This was when I started to realize that, if nothing else, I could write a hook.

Oh my! I had a laugh Waggy, and it wasn’t because of the mix. Hope I am not offending you in any way. Lets just say the tune is indeed qualified for the thread.

Offended? Not at all. Glad you got a laugh out of it. Everybody else sure did.

Oh this is a great topic. I'm about to start listening to the other submissions.

I have recorded a number of intentionally silly songs, but this one kind of fits the bill the best. I found a bunch of terrible vocal samples in the Maschine factory library and wanted to see if I could make something even marginally listenable with them. I called it my "bad sample challenge." I didn't do any special editing or processing with the samples other than occasional tuning. There are some other really bad samples I'd like to use in future songs...

You guys are great. My own example is but dust blowing in the wind compared to yours. When your music is good it is better than mine, and when it is silly, I cannot compete with that either. Damn you, but keep em coming. I bet they tell more about us than the endless stream of musical correctness.
