Hi folks,

I'm looking for a new pair of headphones for mixing (as I blew up one of the drivers of my HD598) Budget around <125 pounds. Advice on those are welcome. Preferably open ones, unless someone has other great ideas.

Thanks!

I like my Audio-Technica M40fs I grabbed 5, 6 years ago.

So much that when I went to buy a nicer pair 2 years ago I immediately put the AT M50 on my list. Went to the store, listened to the AT M50 and Beyer DT770 Pro. Went with the DT770 instead on the M50. Not much difference, I like then both over my 40fs, but less hollowed out/scooped out mids for me with the Beyers. The 770 Pro may be slightly out of your range, but I think the 990 might be in the range, and 990s are open back IIRC.

Sony 7506s are supposed to be nice. Haven't heard any Yamaha, but they should be in your price range. I've kinda soured on AKG since they started using plastic instead of metal in the K240s. Not sure how they sound, but the look/feel comes off as cheap.

Don't know if that helps any.

I listened to a few different pairs of AKG and found their cheaper ones sounded better to my ears so I saved a bundle and bought these - https://www.thomann.de/gb/akg_k_92.htm. Two years on I have no regrets, they complement my monitors perfectly.

Can recommend these AKG K-612 Pro as budget open-back headphones for mixing/mastering, used them for quite some time, they are good and fairly low priced: https://www.thomann.de/uk/akg_k_612_pro.htm

I now use Sennheiser HD-600 and recently got Beyerdynamic DT-1990 Pro ...the DT-1990 being the most detailed (in every part of the frequency range) from these.. but also the most expensive.

I've heard good things about the Audio-Technica stuff, especially the ATH-M50X's, though they might be slightly above your budget.
