Big snares , thundering kicks. How do you make them Synthwave/Retro style ?

Is it, compression , eq-ing, saturation, bit crushing, in what order ... ?

Any tips greatly appreciated...

most people use samples to be efficient.
If you have a specific example it's easier to help
also mentioning what DAW of synth you intend to use to do so helps in case we have the same software or similar etc

thanks all... I do have my own samples and they are "pretty close" to where I want them , but not close enough. The video gave me a couple of good pointers.

Start with Linndrum or SDS samples, use nonlinear/gated reverb. You can always experiment with saturation/distortion if you want them to punch through more. Even bitrcrushers can be used for sure.
One of the signature techniques of synthwave is to sidechain everything (especially the bass) to the kick like in French/filter house.
