I want to compare a folder of presets in one format to another folder with the same presets with the same names but converted into a different format (so they have different extensions and sizes) to see if any have not been converted but the 'Compare Folders' app I managed to dl for the Appstore seems unable to compare n the basis of names alone so marks them all as different. I want something that will ignore extensions and just compare on the basis of names.

Copy both folders. Rename files in both to strip the extensions. Then you can list the files to spot whether you missed one.

Then use terminal / CLI commands such as cp to copy, ren or whatever to rename...

Not even comfortable with simple commands like cd, mkdir, ls, cp?
If you can google, you can learn ;-)

ForkLift and Path Finder both do batch renaming and they also have a sync function that will show which files are missing on each side (assuming you go with Bert's suggestion of creating dupes and testing on those). ForkLift is probably easier to get on with out of the two for this purpose. Or you can use ChronoSync's trial sync, but you don't get the renaming functions in that.

Renaming [copies] is rather easy using Automator. There are presets, even.

Here, you may add 'Duplicate Finder Items' to the workflow so as not to replace the items.
Even an idiot like me can do it.

Note: I do not know why the entry note has 'URLs' as input. In a workflow like this the input is what you give it, eg., Ask for Finder Items.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
