For a more classical sound or orchestral work I can highly recommend the QL Pianos by East West. There are 4 grand pianos included: Steinway / Bösendorfer / Bechstein / Yamaha.
It's also possible to just purchase one piano. They have posted a shootout in comparison with other piano plugins on their website.

Yes, the sound is ok, even the price is right during EW constant sales, however they are totally unplayable - uneven velocity layers, timbre inconsistencies, which is a bit unfortunate to say the least. It's a tough goal to post a playability shootout, right? Anyway, nowadays there are much better libraries then there were 12 years ago.

Recently I was thinking about this issue myself and was looking at some demos on Youtube. I saw a video of someone comparing the Imperfect Samples Ebony Concert Grand Fazoli against the Hammersmith (I have the Hammersmith). I was shocked at how well the Imperfect Samples Ebony sounded in that demo. But then I wondered, if this sounds so good, how come I've never heard of it? And why aren't there more demos and whatnot on Youtube of it?

Has anyone tried this Imperfect Samples piano? Any comments on it? How does it stand up to the VST's on the market today? It seems to have that deep bassy darker jazz sound that I am looking for.

I'm trying to decide between Noire and Ravenscroft.

Listening to demos, something about Noire Pure sounds off---a little synth-like at times, with some attacks sounding unclear, especially when playing quickly. In contrast, Ravenscroft sounds perfect, like a dream piano---though I'm concerned that its harmonic richness might make it harder to fit into complex mixes, this can apparently be adjusted. Already have the iOS Ravenscroft, but it can't handle very fast playing as well.

Or could I adjust the attack (or other gui parameters) of Noire to make individual rapidly played notes sound more distinct, like the Ravenscroft?...

[Edit: Yes, that aspect of the Noire does seem to be adjustable. This setting sounds more like what I'd like:

For me the choice is between the Noire and the
FELT PIANO — GWILYM SIMCOCK
https://www.spitfireaudio.com/shop/a-z/ ... m-simcock/
The Felt Piano has a sweeter sound which I prefer.
But then the particles in Noire, well tough to decide as I may be considering the Pianoteq in the next year.
If there is a -50% on the Felt i will buy that.

Last year for BF Spitfire only did 25% off on individual instruments, but you can almost certainly get 40% off during their Christmas sale if you add it to your "wish list" on Spitfire's website. Timbre is a little too sweet for me, just as Noire Pure is a bit too dry and bright in its default setting (though I like Noire Felt better---darker, richer tone).

Hhhhhm!
(did I spell that correctly?)
The Felt Piano was already in the Wish List. I removed 4 other very expansive plugins.
so at -40% at $59 will I bite? or get the Noire for $75?
The suspense is killing me!

I sadly have too many, but these are a few I particularly cherish:
Embertone Walker
Wavesfactory Mercury
Cinesamples CinePiano
Impactsoundworks Pearl
Bechstein Digital
OrangeTreeSamples Rosewood
Soundiron Emotional
WholeSounds Baldwin

And if you go Pianoteq, do try the Steingraeber.

Hi guys!
If you wish, I made a Piano library for Kontakt, XPERIMENTA Due, containing two premium pianos (a C7 and a C3) recorded in a 105mq room with top-end gear and incredible detail and advanced script functions (like overtones generation). I've worked 8 months on it and I really believe on this project...check it out! https://www.xperimentaproject.com/xperimenta-due/

This is a preview of the new update, which contains also instrument layers :)

(p.s. now there also black Friday deals 8) )

And in the NON-Kontakt side of things, what are good piano libraries recommendations?

I already have Keysuite acoustic and its fantastic.

I own a fair number of the dedicated piano sets that others have listed here. I do NOT own Pianoteq, which I am curious about because it is markedly different from the others because it is modeled.

That said, and I know many here will roll their eyes, but my absolute go-to is Halion 6's "mellow grand piano" preset. I use this with Breeze 2's "clear hall" reverb patch when I just sit and play.

My style generally is improvisation from the American Jazz Songbook catalog. So the subdued tone of the 'mellow' fits the style perfectly.

When recording or producing a fuller track, I may use other specialty pianos to fit the mix or genre. But when just playing or composing, it's Halion 6 that is the easiest and most pleasurable for me.
