Here we go:
https://soundcloud.com/h_s_j_e/hsje-osc ... he-station
Another wildly busy month, including moving to a new home in the last week, and some other projects early on. A little frustrated to be turning in what is essentially a WIP for the second month in a row, but really trying to develop the discipline of finishing a track and participating. The frustrating thing, I think, is that a rushed schedule makes it more difficult to tell if my mixing skills, in particular, are progressing. How it goes, I guess.
DAW: Reaper
Plugins:
DistoCore Bass Murda x 18
Graywolf2004 BlueARP x 4
Stone Voices Ambient Reverb x 8 (I know, I know)
Dragonfly Hall Reverb x 3 (one on the master)
Vladislav Goncharov Limiter No. 6 x 2 (one on master)
YouLean Loudness Meter (on master)
Voxengo SPAN (on master)
ReaEQ x 18
Melda Productions MCompressor
Melda Productions MAutoPan
JS MIDI Router/Transposer x 7

20 Bazz Murdas
5 DistoFX
tracktion7, reverb, eq
orilriver
reaplugs, including reajs stereo enhancer and zero crossing maximizer
t-chain is off the chain yo
overtone geq
unlimited
It's great to see good people get support.
Last month was cool too but the synth wasn't optimized enough to be used realistically without recording/freezing/rendering each instance in a real world application (that doesn't mean that I didn't have entries I could've posted). If it were done in c++ it would be serious business, because it's brilliantly designed.
--
edit
If the lead is not in the sidechain bus and treated like a pop vocal, it takes the emphasis off of the inflated other elements and makes it sound less smashed. This was not the original intention, but I understand that the ear will be drawn to the lead in the background, even though the bass is the focus. Pick whichever mix you want.

Someone liked my Asian flute on Bazz:Murda, here is the patch:
The instrument must be completed using HP and LP filter on the output,
about 220 Hz x HP24 and 6000 Hz x LP12. Add reverb to taste.
How to play it:
For realistic flute you need to automate or real-time control:
1) Main "Volume"
2) "LFO freq" (tremolo/vibrato speed)
3) "Pitch envelope Amount", just a little from zero to 0.4 maximum for the Asian flute attack. Thanks DistoCore for a strangely inspiring synth.

But the Beatles haven't had the tools we now have. It's interessting to use the modern tools and orchestrate ultra-width with the multi-dimensions we have, Time, Frequency, Mid/Sid-Mixing, with Multiband-Mixing...I'm not really after creating the perfect simulation of the real world. In my eyes there's experts for that and they've done it pretty often very successfull. I would rather seek for the abstract, exaggerated, over-worldly sound experience...That's even a kind of freedome...the will to experiment over imitationontrackp wrote: ↑Sat Aug 31, 2019 4:31 pm The Beatles pretty much only cared about mixing in mono -- partly because of the tech available. The mono mixes are fantastic. So with synth instruments - you need to get in the mindset of if you were recording organic instruments, and how would you track them. That will automatically lead you to a better, more well defined sound-stage.

I agree with everything you say. The tools we have should lead to creative progress -- my comments were limited to how important mono can be. The assumption that every track recorded in a DAW should be full width stereo, which seems to be how most tracks are set up is counter-intuitive to traditional control of spacial placement.] Peter:H [ wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2019 8:58 amBut the Beatles haven't had the tools we now have.
