Short question:
how to make an "Apache by The Shadows"-like guitar sound?

Long story and explanation:
A friend and me are trying to make a song as a surprise joke for the wedding of another friend... problem is he's the guitarrist, so we can't ask him anything.

We need to do all by VST and emulators, and in his little studio we have available Overloud TH3 and a RealGuitar guitar (can't recall which one, is an electric one).

The songs could sounds like some Tarantino soundtrack, and we need a guitar that sounds like that old guitars.... it comes to my mind "Apache" by The Shadows, .... i get that there's chorus, a tremolo, perhaps a flanger or a phaser... there's some preset in TH3 but they all lacks a bit of "grit" when you play very hard.

Could we get some help from you all? :)

Single coils and copious amounts of reverb. Acoustic rhythm guitar.
Currently trying to turn noise into music.

think it was just the spring on the amp?
they'd have tripped over any pedals doing that walky thing.

He used tape echo in the early days rather than reverb.

Based on what I hear (and know):
  • Fender Stratocaster
  • Tape echo - a bit longer than a typical slap back
  • A darker sounding valve amp like a Vox AC30
  • Bridge pickup, but sounds like something is rolling off some tone - tone control doesn’t affect the bridge pickup in a Strat, so it’s probably his amp tone settings
  • Quite heavy strings - the lighter strings sound pretty full compared to most Strats
  • A combination of bends and slides are used
  • Lots of tremolo arm use

The only thing I Googled was which pickup he used because I wasn’t sure, but I didn’t really find much.

Yep, the tremolo picking sounds like it’s played much closer to the bridge than most of the rest of it.
