I've tried the ones included in Kontakt's factory library, the ones from Steinberg's Halion Sonic in Cubase Pro, the ones in Roland's Cloud rompler libraries, the ones in Omnisphere but none do it for me.

I need something painstakingly sampled and of higher quality but that's not as expensive as NI's Mallet Flux or SonicCouture's instruments ($300 to get both marimba and vibraphone).

Any ideas come to mind?

thanks!

I use the Orange Tree vibes quite a bit. All of their stuff is good. But sorry, I don't know how the price compares with the NI and SonicCouture instruments you listed (it's not cheap, but I've found it be worth the price). I've got some demos if that would help.

Seconding a look at Orange Tree. The vibraphone is sampled from a Musser M75 Century, sounds great out of the box. The marimba lets you control rolls with MIDI CC, bass and standard mallets, very playable.

Also, consider physical modelling, Pianoteq's got two Vibraphone models (Musser and Bergerault) and you can tweak them to taste, as well as a marimba (in the Xylo pack). If you're particular about the sound you can spend hours adjusting things here.

I'd also consider getting Pianoteq, and the vibraphone extra

https://www.pianoteq.com/vibes

There is a also a randomizer in pianoteq, so you might get lucky,
or perhaps extremely lucky! :hyper:

Thank you all for your answers!

Quite enlightning and both Orange Tree Samples and Pianoteq seem to be really
nice discoveries for me, as companies as well. Pianoteq is especially impressive
having in mind their whole catalog is based on that innovative physical modelling technology.

However buying both the marimba and vibraphone from OTS I reach $198 which is the same
as NI's Mallet Flux. Pianoteq is cheaper, but I'm not sure if I can take the plunge into physical
modelled mallets just yet. It's just that for my tight budget I cannot afford to take any chances
of it not sounding as natural as the sampled ones.

Pianoteq has demos for the plugin and for every instrument they sell. So you can try it out yourself.

Orange Tree is sampled so has no way of providing a good demo. The music/sound examples are well represented in context IMO. They run sales and group buys occasionally which brings down the price considerably if you can afford to wait.

You might want to take a look at the Paperstone Studios offerings: they do a bundle of marimba, vibraphone and log drum that works out a bit cheaper if you want both marimba and vibraphone. They're available through KontakHub.

https://www.handheldsound.com/instrumen ... g-mallets/#* is another good one but also expensive. Wait for sales though - Sonicouture have hefty discounts from time to time as do the others. Modeling also includes Chromaphone2 - but again wait for a sale.

These though are cheap
