Ok, wanted to share another outtake from RPM Challenge 2020. This is one I actually had much of the work completed before the challenge began. A lot of redrops later, I could never get it where I wanted it, so it sat on the side. It is not a duet, but my lovely wife loaned her voice on this one as well.
Still not satisfied, but here is: Elephant in the Room
https://soundcloud.com/jonsolo/elephant-in-the-room
It’s all black and white but everything’s red
It’s all real but it is all in my head
I don’t understand half what I just said
It’s a wonder
I’ve been waiting from the start for the end
It’s all real but I’m still playing pretend
Though I know that I will probably win
It’s a blunder
Silently standing there just waiting (it’s a lovely pachyderm)
Suddenly everything is alright
Bring up the lights under the big top
Cause your life’s the greatest show on the earth
A three ring performance that’s potentially nonstop
It’s the elephant in the room
Most of the time it seems you’re walking the tightrope
Barely getting by on peanuts and pop
By the way this elephant is your last hope
It’s no wonder
He’s still standing there just waiting (it’s a lovely pachyderm)
Suddenly everything is alright
Bring up the lights under the big top
Cause your life’s the greatest show on the earth
A three ring performance that’s potentially nonstop
It’s the elephant in the room
Big grey beast what do you see
Separate sides both pulling me
Awesome (loser)
Faithful (crazy)
Restful (restless)
Stable (lazy)
It’s not enough to be enough can’t get enough of what is not me
Bring up the lights under the big top
Cause your life’s the greatest show on the earth
A three ring performance that’s potentially nonstop
It’s the elephant in the room
(Fade to nonsense random circus greatness)

LMAO. I love how your throw-away tunes are better than my best songs.
I hate you.
Seriously, go listen to some Jellyfish off of Spilt Milk. You so remind me of them in this, which makes sense since they are heavily influenced by the Beach Boys as well.
Great stuff. Saw this thread and I got as excited as when I would see a new Badfinger album or single.
Oh well, back to my crap. Thanks for sharing this gem.

Getting a bit of 10cc with this one too - the very clever chord changes and that.
Top notch songwriting!

If that were only true...
Personally, I love being a producer, behind the scenes. I usually find other vocalists to come in and cover my stuff. Much of what I do is theatrical and orchestral related. I also have done a lot of electronica over the years.
So I was a bit out of my element, but had a blast doing it! I think I will keep this up for awhile and see what I can come up with. More to come for sure!
About the "live" shows, I did play live through most of the early 2000's with a local band. I got tired of covers and really felt past my youth to get my originals out as the "artist". I was glad to break my own mold with this one. It would be fun to try this live though, and see if it got any applause, ha.
