It would be nice to see the number of available products for iOS to cross over to android as well, as there are some wonderful mobile DAWs and VSTs that lock themselves to a single ecosystem.
I think Android devices were too far behind in the way they handle audio and iOS took the majority of that market. it would probably be an uphill struggle now for Android to become a significant audio platform.
That does seem to be the case, but in the last few years, there has been a great increase in interest when it comes to music production and Android devices hold a great share of the market, so while more specialised software might have a harder time finding a place, some DAWs or more creative oriented software might take off just fine.
Take care

I suppose it's possible, but I wouldn't put money on Android growing as an audio platform.

RE: Android. Anything is possible.

RE: IOS. I had a look at the newer 12" iPad Pro specs. 6gb of RAM and a 12x processor. You would want at least 512gb (maybe 1tb storage) to possibly use it as a main DAW setup. It comes with a fancy keyboard and mouse track pad thingy. $1500 Canuki $'s plus another $500 for keyboard ad track pad thiny. Thats around $2,000.

Compared it a 13" Mac Pro with similar specs that will run you slightly under $2,000.

Price wise, similar. Starting to show promise.

i like my ipad for ideas, parts and stems but the DAWs have much to be desired so until they have a decent DAW it is just another tool imo and not to be relied upon on 'just' as a sole platform. still has a LONG way to go... but it is gettin' there. cheers

speaking of which i have been thinking about a new 13" macbook pro... it is cool you can use sidecar to use the ipad as a second screen and also use the pencil on it. nice little setup... but then again... 'thinking' is the keyword here lol

When it comes to the hardware you get - it is and always will be overpriced. I get the main reason why people mainly stick to iOS and other Apple devices are because it's simply what they know or it's the ecosystem they already invested in. But I would definitely like to hear why some people choose Apple instead of any other alternative when starting fresh in 2020.

Probably for the same reasons someone choses iPhone over Android or a PalmOS (is it even alive anymore?).

The price point is a price point that is relative to what the consumer thinks is a good deal "for them" and not compared to other available products on the market. Apple stopped being the graphic designers tool or creative persons tool of choice a long time ago and is now positioned as the higher end premium quality consumer computing product maker. Some of it is brand association (people who want to be seen only using premium name brand products) and some or it peer influence (i got a kid in highschool and if you don't have $300 airpods you are a loser! hence he has to have a iphone and airpods to keep abrest with the cool kids).

I am an OS X user when it comes to music. (I use all OS's as I am an IT guy.). I am starting to get a little concerned that music software developers *might* be putting more work and effort into making their products perform better on a Windows platform instead of OS X. Not good at all. :(

Well, no matter what the reasoning is for a person to choose a platform - developer support should always be maintained on every platform the product is provided for at the best it can be. But why do you feel like developers might be prioritising Windows instead of OS X? As a 100% Windows/Android user, I always feel that iOS and OS X are getting the better half of the attention from the developers, but at the same time, I wouldn't know, so I'm curious.
Take care

Try to be more platform agnostic and the world's a much more exciting place.

My bought products (that's all they are) run, and run on, Win, Mac OS, Android and iOS depending on the tool and the task.

Some platforms have tools that do some things better than others, either by design or dev/customer preference.

I always take things like this with a grain of salt. Since as far back as I remember ‘analysts’ have tried to predict Apple product announcements and have rarely got it right. Look at Apple moving to ARM processors - about every 6 months for the past decade someone has been certain that it’s going to happen “next year” or “shortly” or “in the near future”. It will probably happen at some point, but people outside of Apple rarely get it right.

However, I hope it happens soon!

i agree apple products are overpriced.. most of the money is for the icon status symbol for most. i couldn't care less about that.

as for me... years ago i got an ipod touch for a music player but fell in love with some of the apps. i eventually moved up to an ipad for a bigger screen and more power. it is just my opinion of course but after all my life on windows (almost 60 now) i find applications for apple products a LOT more fun and engrossing than 90% of what you find for windows and the like. it was because of the ipad that i chose a macbook pro when needing a new laptop for mobility. arguably it is my belief that the fun factor leads to a LOT more creativity in the end.

and as for overpriced again... i do agree... but i think i did very well buying the MBP 13 4 port. the integration of the ipad and the macbook is amazing. after all it only cost me $724... the money i had saved up towards a new laptop. being an American citizen and the $1200 stimulus check... Uncle Sam paid the remainder lol. thank you Uncle Sam!
