A Real Time Mystery was co-written with Billy Sherwood of Yes (guitars, vocals, lyrics). My friend Bruce Lebovitz is playing violin. I am playing keys, Chapman Stick, and Zendrum. The song is about the mysteries of mind and memory loss (lyrics can be found on Soundcloud).

Billy Sherwood - isn't he now their bass player since Chris Sq passed away or am I making that all up? Truth is I haven't followed them quite as much in the last couple of years or so.

For me the reason why this works so well is - at its core it is simply a really good song!!!

All the more 'progressive' developments are also effective, but they are additions / an added bonus...for me that's often when PR is at its very best.

Thanks so much! Billy is currently the bass player in official Yes although at one point (in the 90's) he was the guitarist along with Steve Howe. Yes world is a bit confusing at the moment but they still are one of my favorite bands including the various solo careers, off shoots etc. Prog and fusion are my favorite styles but they can lead one down the path of trying to be clever for the sake of being clever. In an interview, Pat Metheny emphasized the importance of melody. Even in his more complex pieces, you can always sing the melody.

It was never very straightforward from what I remember! :)

Followed them throughout the 70s and 80s and then slowly lost touch a bit!

I'm a massive Genesis fan and actually got into Yes through an obsessed friend + the link with (almost Yes keyboardist) Vangelis and his long association with JA...Vangelis is someone I've studied / listened to / learnt from for nearly 40 years now!

Agreed...something I'm always wary of myself! I can over develop / over complicate my own music sometimes.

I love Vangelis and the albums he did with Jon! I am also a massive Genesis fan (pretty much everything up to And Then There Were Three...). I was fortunate to work with Jon on a song a few years back (I am playing piano - the rest was added by others).

Nice! Is that released on an album? I know quite a bit of his solo work as well and don't recognise it.

Such an instantly recognisable voice! :)

I know some people struggle with his 'sound', but I've always loved it.

Recently watched that Icelandic concert he did with Todmobile in 2015ish - Awaken - extraordinary version of probably my favourite PR piece...JA's performance was absolutely stunning...and from someone who's voice had serious problems in the early 2000s from what I remember?

Thanks! It is on his album "Survival and Other Stories." His voice is definitely back and strong after he had some health problems. I saw the "Awaken" video - it is stunning!

There is also a version on "The Living Tree" with some guy named Rick Wakeman ;-) playing the piano.

i think I've heard the name :)...apparently he's quite over-rated...can't really play that fluently! :)

Ha! Talking about 'Awaken' ...that piano intro by RW...that was the one very, very slight disappointment in the Todmobile version...the reduced initial solo...then again, I tried to play the bloody thing myself once, many years ago and couldn't even get close! :)

Wow. I told myself I'd listen to a tiny bit, then get back to work. I had to listen to the whole track. Something about it felt like it was Genesis influenced, without actually sounding like it was copying them. I can't think of anything I didn't like. The vocals, playing, recording, mixing; all top notch. I'm going to have to listen to your other stuff. But not tonight, or I'll never finish my work before I hit the sack. Great job.
I wish I could sing as well as the voices inside my head...
