Cyclotic (Prog Rock - Chapman Stick)

“Cyclotic” is an instrumental song featuring a variety of tapping string instruments (10-string Alto Chapman Stick, 8-string NS Chapman Stick, and a Harpejji 16 string) along with acoustic guitar, Zendrum, organ, and synth. The piece was inspired by the destructive circular nature of what passes as discourse these days.

This was very enjoyable. Great playing and all of the stringed instrument parts meshed together very well. I think you managed to pace it very well. It's quite concise, and the various sections of the piece dovetail together nicely, preserving the flow of the song. The Stick bass and drums are nice and tight. Great mix too.

Everything is very well done, the recording is excellent and the playing is superb. The music hangs together easily and those drums are really 1st-rate.

Now that is so much in 1970s YES territory for me..some of their more esoteric moments maybe!? (They didn't have that many easy access tracks thinking about it)!

Sounds like the utimate mixing nightmare, but you've pulled it off very convincingly! Everything is well placed in the 3D soundstage with a good balance between blending and separation.

Thanks to all for the very kind words! It was a bit of a challenge keeping the various instruments separated. I found a great compressor preset in the Logic compressor that seemed to help the NS Stick pop out in the bass register.

Before the 80's I think Yes may have two "hits" - Roundabout and Don't Kill The Whale - maybe Going for the One? On long car trips my wife and I would alternate picking songs to listen to - she caught on very quickly that my choices were 30 minutes plus! We had to adjust the deal.

Yes' biggest hit single in the UK was Wonderous Stories. It reached No. 7 in the charts.

Lonely Heart - massive in USA...number 1 there? Never really did well over in the UK for some reason...remember my big YES aficianado friends all hated it.

It did (and still does) divide the Yes fandom amongst other topics. From my perspective, the style change was likely a requirement for survival in the 80’s. It also brought the massively talented Trevor Rabin into the fold. While also controversial from a style perspective, Trevor is an incredible talent. His recent instrumental album “Jacaranda” is an amazing album.
