Red (Focusrite) is one of my favorite ITB compressors ever, especially for bass guitar, vocals, and drums/percussion.

See mastering master Lagerfeldt's summary of Logic Compressor modes here and discussion here.

Platinum is magic for percussion.

Post

Platinum Digital is great for a clean compressor or using to Sidechain to duck a signal.

Back in the day I found them lacking a lot, so basically used some of them as sidechaining only.

Also channelEQ warped like hell at least in logic9, cannot use it for bass equalizing at all... those were the days, they're gone now.
Soft Knees - Live 12, Diva, Omnisphere, Slate Digital VSX, TDR, Kush Audio, U-He, PA, Valhalla, Fuse, Pulsar, NI, OekSound etc. on Win11Pro R7950X & RME AiO Pro

This kind of explains why Hans Zimmer hated Logic so much.

Now I’m tempted to hunt down a copy of Logic 9 (or even older) and play with it just to see how bad it is...
I hate signatures too.

I thought Hans was a life long Cubase user? He’s stated often the best DAW is the one you use and know.

The best one is the one with best stock EQ obviously. :hihi:

There's an old interview somewhere (I can't find a working link) where he says he can tell that something was mixed in Logic, and he rejects any material made by Logic users unless they do it over in another DAW. It pops up in forums now and then. Naturally, people say "that's impossible" and talk about digital mixing and the zero-sum test. That EQ anecdote has me wondering, though.

EDIT: I found it after all: https://www.steinberg.net/en/community/ ... immer.html

It's not dated, but it does mention Inception, so it's likely from 2010 or so. Logic X wasn't out yet.
I hate signatures too.

Yeah, that's just malarky. I love famous people who make good music but in no way does it mean they're rational scientific thinkers. Chris Carter thinks Live has a sound as well.

I've got Live, Logic, DP10, Bitwig and Reaper on this system. The only "sound" any of them have is due to native plug ins. Some differences in the way latency works, but nothing like a sound of the audio engine has ever been a real thing IMO.

Some folks can hear changes they are making on bypassed instance, placebo is just strong with some folks, being surrounded with yes-man that can't call BS on your claims doesn't help either.

This is great series of videos that explore DAW differences in sound, but I don't think he heard any of it really.
