Dubbed from an old low-budget 45 by a bar band I was in at the time. Recorded 1979 or 1980 can't recall. The record never went anywhere, as was the case for 99.9% of low budget records released back then.

Well it was fun anyway. Keyboards I played on the first tune were Steinway Grand, Hammond C3, White-face Arp Odyssey, Freeman String Symphonizer. Only played Steinway on the second tune. Some typical 45 vinyl distortion in there.

Aaaa, 1979 that's that typical piano quarter groove. And yes: Sounds great,
also has a nice 70s catchy character. I really enjoyed it!

Thanks for listening enroe. Yeah, typical stylistically embedded in time like a fly in amber. The "quarter note thang" was perhaps first popularized by some post-1967 Beatles songs. That wasn't among my favorite rhythms but the guitarist wrote that Side A song and specifically requested piano stiff as a cob quarter-notes. Had a good ear for arranging, knew what he wanted.

So anyway both tunes were also trying to set hooks deep as Queequeg plunging a harpoon.

Not that it did any good commercially.

The EJ comparison surprising but maybe the diff between an "objective first hearing" vs long familiarity. Strong singer with a wide range and trained diction, so maybe that somehow reinforces the comparison.

I don't recall John Miles. Looked up some of his albums today and they sound purt good. Thanks for the tip. John Miles maybe in the same stylistic galaxy with Dave Mason who was an old favorite.

I thought side a maybe ELO or Moody Blues with a dash of Bowie + Turtles.

Everything has to sound like something.

Side b maybe early Jackson Browne or Eagles, or something like Pure Prarie League as covered by Bob Seger rhythm section (muscle shoals swampers probably) or Fleetwood Mac.

Even a country rock song has to sound like something or the other!
