Today Geert Bevin will be joining us in the Zoom call. He's staying with me here in California while he's attending the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference.
I will definitely be there!

It's been a real pleasure talking to you people!

Some links about stuff we've talked about:

This puzzle game with awesome music:
The Sexy Brutale - https://store.steampowered.com/app/5525 ... y_Brutale/
(the name is weird, it's neither sexy nor brutal, it's about preventing murders in a masked ball by using time loops - the puzzles are on the easy side at times, but the story is enthralling and the music is awesome - also notice that the game is often at -85% discount in steam)
The soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rP8RxMn ... 2ayM7VFkic
Main Theme Score (to play with the Linny!): https://musescore.com/user/11238901/scores/6894641

Algorithmically optimized keyboard layout: https://engram.dev
(I contributed to the spanish version at https://github.com/binarybottle/engram-es)

Ergo split keyboards: https://kinesis-ergo.com/explore-keyboards/ - https://ergodox-ez.com/
Nicola gave us a heads up on a spanish one - Digma Defy: https://dygma.com/blogs/product-develop ... dygma-defy

About my issue with VST plugings, the thing is that I've been collecting some baseline free instruments to have some variety of basic sounds (e.g., the flute was this one: https://plugins4free.com/plugin/2721/) but I didn't really check if they were MPE capable or not. I'll check now Roger's sound sources and report back.

Thanks for everything, see you next month !

i had alot of fun, thank you for the summary!

Gosh dang it, missed this one. Thought yesterday was tuesday because of German holidays.
Great to see Geert up and healthy.

Thanks for the summary Miguel. That’s so cool that Geert joined!

Post

This is so cool. Thanks for doing this Roger.

It was fun chatting with you all today! Such a big group.

Roger, for future hangouts, do you think it would be fun if people could volunteer to perform on LinnStrument? I would suggest to keep the performance to 2 minutes so it’s short and sweet. Then we could chat a bit about their sound and setup.

I have a short rendition of Amazing Grace I would like to share.

Post

Good idea, Chris. I’ve updated the initial post to include an invitation to give a brief performance.

That would be neat. It was super cool for me as well even though I was only able to catch half of it. Much food for thought and a wide variety of interests. For myself, I thought there was good *practical* discussion around Linnstrument "docking", sharing synth sound design and Linnstrument as tool for learning. My measure of a good meeting is whether there was an actual outcome and this met that criteria!

Not to divert this thread into political/social concerns, and not a reflection on Linnstrument community in particular, but my only disappointment is a common one: diversity ... few and sometimes no women at these kind of meetups and in more technical aspects of music and sound design. I know that's changing but feels like at a glacial pace. I don't have any brilliant suggestions about inclusivity and this isn't about blame, just a challenge I wanted to share.

Post

Great meeting indeed. Wonderful to have taken part, thankful for a great and friendly community. Looking forward to the next one.
Thanks so much Roger!

Hi Miles,

Good point. From purchase registrations, I'd say that perhaps 1% to 2% of LinnStrument owners are women. Perhaps it will change when electronic instruments are as easy to pick up and play as acoustic instruments are now.

Post

Agreed Miles, it's good to recognize that we could be more diverse. I feel like it's up to us LinnStrument players to share the instrument with new players in a daily life way.

In any case, still great meeting you all!

Post

Thanks, it was great hanging with you all!

It's time again for the monthly online LinnStrument Zoom call. It starts at 10 am, an hour from now. The Zoom link is at the start of this thread.

Great call yesterday, and I really enjoyed our surprise guest and introduction to the Continuum and EagenMatrix, as well as the accessibility discussion. -RobT
