Program/bank data sending to host

Bit of a double post, as I've asked about this on the Reaper forum too.

In short, it's about TX sending the bank / program names to Reaper. When does it happen, what triggers it, because I can see it's happened at times, but can't control it.

I want to use ReaControlMidi and also the bank / program select data entry in the piano roll in Reaper to select sounds in Tx16wx. It's very handy when you have the program names in the drop down.

Any pointers here?

Plug-in formats have their own ideas of what "programs" are, and most are pretty rigid. In VST2, a "program" maps to a TX performance, and what is known as a "channel program" maps to actual TX programs. Channels is this case is Midi Channels, so it will map based on "first slot mapped to midi channel N", which may or may not be what you want. In VST3 you have "units", but again, because slots and sets of performances/programs are quite dynamic in TX, the actual mapping varies over time.

Now, TX notifies the host every time things change in this regard, and it is then up to the host to actually read the program sets and try to present them. Beyond that I don't really have much control... (Though it could of course be that we don't notify "enough" for some hosts).

What I've noticed is that the piano roll notes update with the sample name pretty instantly on a change in TX, so I presume that's also the moment at which an updated bank/program list is sent

If this is true, then it seems to be something I need to work out with Reaper as I suspected. No answer so far. I can only dream that Justin would show up and answer like you have ;D
