“Boundaries” is an instrumental piece focused primarily on a quartet format (except for the intro and outro). Lately, I have been working on adding more space and openness to the music and having the instruments communicate across their sonic boundaries.

Cool. The section starting around 4:07 was very nice, especially the piano.
Over all the mix felt like it needed more compression at times, and a reduction in room noise.

Reminds me of live music as you sometimes hear in pubs or on smaller live music stages, sounds a bit like free jazz too? Did you record everything yourselves? That's fantastic, I wish I could play the piano that well.
Yes, there's the sound of the room on it, so it doesn't sound like a studio production. If you want it to sound "live", ok. Otherwise I would change something in the mix.

4damind and eassae: Thanks for the listen, kind words, and suggestions. I am playing all the instruments and the goal was to have a "live" sound for the virtual band.
I think the room noise was me being overzealous with a new room plug in. I backed off the plugin considerably and upped the compression a bit. Here is the remix:

For my taste, I like the sound of the remix version. Again, nice work!jcub wrote: Mon Dec 18, 2023 11:48 pm 4damind and eassae: Thanks for the listen, kind words, and suggestions. I am playing all the instruments and the goal was to have a "live" sound for the virtual band.

jcub,
Thank you for the reviews! Now your song: intro reminded me a bit of Pink Floyd (a compliment); then before long, it sounds more jazzy. Fantastic piano playing! Guitars are nice too. I find this relaxing (I need it!) even though it is mostly energetic. Very well done!

I really liked the whole thing through. Well played and thought out. My only concern is that it all sounds to edgy some how. To me a more mellow mix would suit, but its a personal concern only

Thanks, Shane. Sure! I have a good friend in Joppa (a guitar player and singer). Please message me.
