1) The perpetual license is NFR during a subscription and after. Same product otherwise, you lose the bonuses after subscription is over.rlared wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 4:25 am Thinking about getting Studio One 7 but a few questions:
1) Is the $179 12 month subscription exactly the same product as the $199 perpetual license? Is it just priced that way because they want you to try Studio One +?
2) When using the program, is it easy to tell which plugins, sounds, etc you "own" and which are part of the subscription?
3) If I use subscription content in a song and then don't renew my subscription, can I still open the song later?
Thanks!
2) This I don't know; but guess is no.
3) Probably can open song just the plugins don't work.
Just my guesses...

Those effects and instruments called "built in...." in manual should most likely be part of perpetual license.
- everything else part of Plus stuff, is my assumption
- is it Melodyne Essential or something too that is licensed

Checkout Plus content specs to see details of the product they sell.

S1 7 Pro and the upgrade/crossgrade are on sale (Best seevice) until Jan 3 for $122 and $91, respectively. I just upgraded Bitwig for $129. Not sure if I want to upgrade my S1 5 Artist license or get Reaper instead.

Was wrestling between this and UAD Luna Pro bundle. Eventually, I decided to get Luna, as I already have Ableton Live and FL Studio. Luna was something different as compared.Korg Supporter wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 4:49 am S1 7 Pro and the upgrade/crossgrade are on sale (Best seevice) until Jan 3 for $122 and $91, respectively. So I went ahead and got Studio One 7 because of the Best Service price.
I’m looking at the FAQ regarding perpetual license updates, and it's confusing and seemingly contradictory.
“Users with perpetual licenses past their one year of included feature releases will receive all maintenance releases (x.x.X) until the next feature version (y.y) […] This is the equivalent of a Studio One 6 user who doesn’t have a Studio One Pro 7 license. They would get 6.6.3 and 6.6.4, but not 7.0.0, 7.0.1 or 7.0.2.”
That seems to imply ‘yes’, since x.x.X would be version 7.x.1 and y.y would be version 8.0. So if there is a maintenance release that fixes some bug in version 7, and you have version 7, and version 8 has not yet been released, then it follows that you would get that maintenance release, whether it includes new features after your year expired or not. Unless PreSonus are going to maintain several maintenance versions of Studio One at once, i.e., v7.1.3, v7.2.3, 7.3.3, 7.4.3 … 7.x.3. That seems like a lot of unnecessary work just to screw expired v7 users out of a few new features.

So if your one-year quasi-subscription ends when you’re on v7.4.3, and then PreSonus releases Studio One Pro 7.5 followed by 7.5.1, do you get this?Studio One Pro FAQ wrote:
What does “one (1) year of new feature releases” mean for my Studio One Pro 7 license?
“One (1) year of new feature releases included,” means you will own all new features released within that year. After the end of your year of included new features, your perpetual license will be for the most recent new feature release version (ex. x.x). You will continue to receive any maintenance and bug fix releases for your version until the next new feature release (ex. x.x.X)—all “X” bug fixes and maintenance releases are included with your perpetual license.
What maintenance releases will I receive for my license after my year of new feature releases ends?
If you’re on version x.x.X of a perpetual license, all “X” bug fix and maintenance releases are included. Users with perpetual licenses past their one year of included feature releases will receive all maintenance releases (x.x.X) until the next feature version (y.y) is released. Further maintenance releases based on the next release version will only be available by purchasing a Perpetual License Upgrade or subscribing to Studio One Pro+. This is the equivalent of a Studio One 6 user who doesn’t have a Studio One Pro 7 license. They would get 6.6.3 and 6.6.4, but not 7.0.0, 7.0.1 or 7.0.2.

I think not because as I understood, "y.y" means you have updates for v7.4 till v7.5 (not included). Otherwise you have the right to upgrade till the next major release (which is not the case here).jamcat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 12:21 pm So if your one-year quasi-subscription ends when you’re on v7.4.3, and then PreSonus releases Studio One Pro 7.5 followed by 7.5.1, do you get these?

Yeah, the answer to FAQ#1 seems to point to your interpretation, but the answer to FAQ#2 seems to contradict it. Unless, as I said, they are going to release maintenance updates for each feature update of the current version.EnGee wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 12:46 pmI think not because as I understood, "y.y" means you have updates for v7.4 till v7.5 (not included). Let’s say your plan is expired in December with 7.3.1 and in January they have released 7.3.2 you will get it. If they instead release 7.4 you will not, and in that case I do not think there will be anymore updates for 7.3

I think what they meant is you have updates from X.x.x till X.y.y (not included) so all that before releasing major update which will be Y.x.x ! I agree it’s so confusing. They need to put it clearly not like a puzzle!jamcat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 1:09 pmYeah, the answer to FAQ#1 seems to point to your interpretation, but the answer to FAQ#2 seems to contradict it. Anyway, I hate this system! One of the reasons why I sold my Bitwig license.
I like what Cubase and Ableton are doing. For example, I’ve got an update for Cubase 13 while v14 is already out. The same is with Ableton when I had v11 and v12 was already out. When I pay money, I pay for a major update not for a time limited minor updates!

So what you’re saying is PreSonus erred when they said “Users with perpetual licenses past their one year of included feature releases will receive all maintenance releases (x.x.X) until the next feature version (y.y) is released.”
What they actually meant was “Users with perpetual licenses past their one year of included feature releases will receive all maintenance releases (x.x.X) until the next feature version (x.y) is released.”
That explanation makes sense.

At some point I may well be tempted to upgrade from v6 (once there's a feature that makes it worthwhile). So I really hope they've sorted this out by then because it's a mess at the moment and pretty poor that they've made a fundamental shift in their pricing model and don't seem able to explain it. Or worse, but more likely, haven't actually thought through all the permutations before announcing it.

I thought they meant by small letters "x,y,z" a minor update while the capital letters "X,Y,Z" a major update (I don't know why they started with small letters on the left though!) Anyway, we will see what they mean. If you have updates till 7.5 (if your sub ends with 7.4) or till 8.0.jamcat wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 2:26 pm So what you’re saying is PreSonus erred when they said “Users with perpetual licenses past their one year of included feature releases will receive all maintenance releases (x.x.X) until the next feature version (y.y) is released.”

If you buy the upgrade from Best Service for $91, you can hold on to the serial number and register it once there's an update worth upgrading for. I wish I had done that, but I am hasty.dastewart wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 2:53 pm At some point I may well be tempted to upgrade from v6 (once there's a feature that makes it worthwhile).
