Was wondering to what extent can you claim a song writing credit. Vocal packs and the FL Cloud do not provide these credits and it was asked why on the IL forum. The answer was good enough but I started wondering: Sometimes I edit songs. I switch the chorus with the verse. One song I didn't like the end of the chorus so I edited in other words. One song I took a verse from a different song and used because it fit so well. So, my question is: if I alter a song like this can I claim a songwriting credit?
Thanks for any help.

True story: band walks into studio with a song written by their founding member. Producer says "nice!". They work on the song, producer changes some details: arrangement, maybe alter a chord, a word, just minor. It gets published and becomes a hit! Then the band discovers the producer gets half of writers credit. The band feels it was stolen, and I understand why.

That's not what I'm talking about. I've bought the songs and can use them how I see fit. There's no extra money to be gained from having a songwriting credit. What I want to know is, if you change a song to where it isn't like the original, would you consider that as being part of the songwriting?

Read the fine print of the contract / agreement that came with it. I don't have it, but you do.

You bought (a license to use) it. That usually means you can do with it whatever you want to, which includes (but is not limited to) make some actual music, and eventually share it, which means: publish it. That's what's it for, right? Then if you don't take any credit, then who does? You'd expect they get royalties again? But you already paid for it.

Simply put: you have pre-cleared samples.

Side note: there's a chance that someone else already used the same vocals sample, or another pre-cooked ingredient, and the bot of YouTube etc detect that and conclude there's an infringement on copyright. Bollox ofcourse, but be prepared to challenge that (and good luck with that, you're going to need it)
