“Turbulent Waves” continues the fusion style of my recent virtual band releases. The track features lead synths, electric guitar, Harpejji G16, NS Chapman Stick, organ, and Zendrum. The drums were recorded first, followed by bass, organ, and guitar. I then systematically replaced all the tracks to refine the mostly improvised first recordings of each instrument, resulting in a more melodic and coherent piece. The solos follow a standard “trading fours” pattern.

jcub,
Thank you for the reviews! Now your song: you probably know jazz fusion better than me, though this song strikes me more as prog rock; consider that a compliment. This reminds me of elements of Yes and ELP; Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson (another compliment). I think it is really good! Everything is tight. It's complex enough to keep me entertained, but not obscure. Nice sound quality too.

Thank you! I can see the prog rock angle - especially because of the instrumentation. Keith Emerson was my main influence growing up. I was lucky enough to see him with the Keith Emerson Band at Moogfest in 2013 in a small venue. Amazing show and he told great stories too.

Another gem! The rather heavy drumming maybe pushes it more toward prog rock, but it seems totally appropriate to the song. Great listening!! Thanks!

OOii – that starts off unusually – until the jazz style you're used to kicks in. It grooves
great – although I would turn the heavy guitar up a bit. Overall I like the song - but
not the beginning. The set pieces and intricate rhythms make the instrumental
interesting. I also think the ending is felicitous. Great work!

Great track. Definitely Jazz oriented. I would say more Jazz Rock than Fusion, why it is understandable some others call it prog. In the final part, the guitar does give me KC-vibes.

Thanks very much procrastive! The line between the two styles can be blurry.procrastive wrote: Sat May 31, 2025 3:02 am Another gem! The rather heavy drumming maybe pushes it more toward prog rock, but it seems totally appropriate to the song. Great listening!! Thanks!

Thanks, crimsonwarlok! I appreciate it. I had Jazz Fusion in my head when I was working on it but I think the organ in particular pushes it toward the prog rock side.crimsonwarlock wrote: Sun Jun 01, 2025 2:55 pm Great track.
