Hi all, Waveform 13.5.2 is now available for download via tracktion.com > "My Downloads" > "PUBLIC BETA".
Apart from the usual internal optimisations and performance improvements this:
• Improves clip launching with pre-set record lengths, legato playback, nudge and launch modes (trigger/gate/toggle/repeat)
• Adds automation modes (read/touch/latch/write)
• Adds clip automation (automation curves that live on clips and can be looped/modified etc.)
We've added new user manual chapters which can be found in our working draft here: https://github.com/Tracktion/waveform_m ... -this-book
There will be a video to follow.
As always, please don't use beta software with existing projects or in critical systems.
We're mainly looking for any show stopping bugs but this has been tested for a while in our private QA team.
Cheers,
Dave

Thank you, I'll be happy to test it.
I dream of rss news for the beta channel
added. automation clips are only available in the pro version, were they made like synapse orion? automation can be done not generally, but tied directly to the audio clip itself, it's cool, but doubtful, nothing has changed for me, to move the automation location, select all the points, copy, then delete, select a new location and paste, instead of just moving or repeating a separate clip containing automation on the second track. the coloring is new and cute, at first glance the rendering was fixed in the midi editor, in the free version the coloring is old, also not bad. I'm inclined to be skeptical, thanks for fixing the bugs.

On first try I noticed that if I used the clip automation feature assigned to two separate plugins on the track it worked well but if I changed the order of the plugins it messed things up, one of the automation curves stopped working. Will explore more in depth when I can, as this feature rocks!

This is the most underwhelming update I have ever seen for Waveform.
If you want to do automation clips look at how Mulab and Fl studio do them.
The clip launcher functions that were added should have been in there from day one in the last version.

Really? Clip automation is a biggie, oft requested by users and must have taken a great amount of time to add. Also there's stuff on clip launch modes and lotsa bug fixes. This is a FREE update after all, I'd expect many more user requested features to be added at 14.

My understanding is when you buy an upgrade for any numbered version e.g. Version 11 12 13 then the subsequent year is a "point" upgrade and, yes that does not cost anything but would be factored into the price of the upgrade for each numbered version.

No charge for the 0.5 updates.rickpress wrote: Thu Jun 05, 2025 11:46 am Is it free? Is it not by definition when you buy every major version that that upgrade fee covers two years - the numbered release and then the point update?
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

Seems like less than other point five updates (so far), but automation clips was the big one for me. Also, other updates added features that weren't for me, like the clip launcher. I get that all the hip kids are using those these days, but I'm not a kid and I was never hip.
Surely there must be consensus by now...

We're never going to please everyone but we did try to put a feature set together covering some of the most requested things from over the years and the survey. This includes making huge improvements to how automation works. Sorry it wasn't good enough for you.

On the topic of releases and numbers etc. We don't have a strict set of rules we work by.
We used to release a major version as a paid update every year but as the number of users and feature set grew, it takes more time to support that. We also got complaints about charging every year.
So we generally switched to a paid upgrade every other year and still tried to pack in some useful features in between. We also started releasing features as expansion packs so people could add them perpetually to Free for a lower fee.
The release months aren't fixed but we do have to draw a line on features somewhere otherwise we certainly wouldn't be able to move on to features that might be more useful to a different set of users.
