I put this track together in July 2023, and then spent a while mixing and releasing three albums. Now that the backlog is almost cleared, I can put up some new tracks.
The inspiration for this was always the continent, but during the composition, I was repeatedly drawn towards scenes from the movies Pitch Black, and less surprisingly, The Thing.
It makes a change to write some music that is not inspired by the advertising industry.
Dark-ish, melodic ambient with glitchy synths

You can almost hear the penguins waddling, fluttering and talking across the ice.
The vastness of Antarctica is well portrayed. Many beautiful sound ideas. A very
beautiful Antarctic song!

Nice soundtrack for the antarctica. I liked the soundscape and atmosphere, as well as the unhurried ambiance. Good mix and sounds.

Great sound design. I really like this harmonically, a lot of unexpected moments, but still very listenable.
When the data is corrupt in the Desert of the Real, Beyond the Last Thought, where intuition reigns, is the solace that will embolden and strengthen the soul, giving hope once more to this age of failing technique. eassae.com

I hadn't even considered penguins as an optionenroe wrote: Fri Jun 13, 2025 7:00 am You can almost hear the penguins waddling, fluttering and talking across the ice.![]()
I always feel that music inspired by landscapes like these should proceed slowly to convey the sense of scale/size.enroe wrote: Fri Jun 13, 2025 7:00 am The vastness of Antarctica is well portrayed. Many beautiful sound ideas. A very

Thanks very much for taking the time to listen and comment, Andy. Glad you liked it

I was looking forward to this having recently watched "The Thing from Another World" (1951) and "The Thing" (1982). (I prefer the 1951 movie which is less gory.) However, those presumably alien sounds are extremely hard for me to tolerate with their extreme dynamics and high frequencies. I can get through it once on low volume but I can't listen in a relaxed way with my sensitivity to these kind of sounds. Sorry, I need to recuse myself from this one.

Beautiful soundscape. Definitely Antarctic. I feel that the occasional glitchy sounds are the “life” part of the frozen landscape. Well done.

The Thing (1982) is one of my favourite '80s SciFi movies, although it was a long time before I realised it. I still haven't seen the earlier film.Frantz wrote: Thu Jun 19, 2025 3:55 pm I was looking forward to this having recently watched "The Thing from Another World" (1951) and "The Thing" (1982). I think the sound choices for this piece were "adventurous", so I can understand your low tolerance for this piece. My next track is certainly more restrained in that area, to the point of sounding "muddy".
Thanks very much for listening, Frantz.

Thanks very much for listening and for the great comments, dbo. The use of those glitchy synths was definitely inspired by off-world organisms. I really liked the glitchy stuff, the atmospheric pads are really nice. I second that what enroe wrote
especially that with the penguins
it is better to have a track with some mistakes than a track without any soul

I liked those, it feels just right for me. I guess my hearing is numbed. Or are my speakers worn down...?Frantz wrote: Thu Jun 19, 2025 3:55 pm those presumably alien sounds are extremely hard for me to tolerate with their extreme dynamics and high frequencies

All the glitchy stuff is tastefully done and makes the tune more interesting.
Love that glitch......
