Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition Diamond

Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition is the highly anticipated expansion to Hollywood Orchestra, the best-selling and most awarded orchestral virtual instrument ever produced. It includes brand new pristine recordings, reimagined original content, and powerful new features, all housed in our new revolutionary OPUS software engine. Produced by Doug Rogers and Nick Phoenix, recipients of over 100 international industry Awards, and sound engineered by multiple Academy Award and BAFTA winner Shawn Murphy, Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition is the culmination of years of recording and programming and will set a new industry standard for achieving professional sounding orchestral soundtracks. Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition will be released with the new Opus software and a companion product Hollywood Orchestrator, a must-have tool for composers of every skill level who want to achieve that Hollywood blockbuster sound quickly.

Brand new recordings include a new 18 violin string section for Hollywood Strings, new ensembles for Hollywood Brass and Hollywood Orchestral Woodwinds, plus new string, brass, and wind multi ensembles. "The new 18 violins are an alternate to the first 16 violins of the original library. They have a different sound," says producer Nick Phoenix, "the players are different. The vibrato is different. The legato is the best we have ever recorded. They work well with the existing collection or as a replacement for the original 1st violins. The new 2 tenor trombones have a completely different sound from the 3 trombones in the original collection. The new trombones are warm, full, and extremely precise. 2 trumpets were recorded again using two of the best players in the Hollywood film score scene. The legato is blazing at high velocities and sounds like a live performance."

The programming of the original content from Hollywood Orchestra has been updated to take advantage of the features included in the new Opus software engine, as well as the Hollywood Solo Instrument Series (now included in this expansion). Particular focus was placed on Hollywood Orchestral Woodwinds. After improving the original woodwinds, new ensembles were recorded, including 3 bassoons, 3 clarinets, and 3 flutes. "Once again, this was a huge success because of the quality of the players," says Phoenix, "Each woodwind ensemble works together on a regular basis and the tuning and timing are immaculate. In addition, a "Stage" recorded mic position was added for all of the new instruments and ensembles. This extra mic position is perfect for capturing the larger sound of EastWest Studio One, the home of countless Hollywood film and television scores. All mic positions are available in the Diamond version and for ComposerCloud Plus subscribers. One mic position is available for the Gold version and for regular ComposerCloud subscribers. ComposerCloud X members get an extra mic position than Gold. These new recordings are unmatched in the virtual instruments world. The Opus Edition also includes new string, brass and wind multi ensembles that have a unique fat sound that captures the tuning of a large orchestra playing together in a live setting."

Powerful new control features include Master key-switches where all articulations can be fully customized in the new OPUS articulation palette. You can also customize the sound of each instrument using the new MOODS feature. Classic Mood is the original Hollywood Orchestra sound. Soft Mood modifies the sound for slower, more emotional passages. Epic Mood does the opposite, giving you a sound perfectly suited for your next Action Adventure score. Each mood changes the settings and the look of the interface, which has been completely redesigned and stylized for Hollywood Strings, Hollywood Brass, Hollywood Orchestral Woodwinds, Hollywood Percussion, Hollywood Solo Violin, Hollywood Solo Cello, and Hollywood Harp. In addition, we simplified all instrument versions down to LITE and MAX, making Hollywood Strings in particular much easier to navigate. On less powerful systems use the LITE versions, and on more powerful systems use the MAX versions. Although the MOODS feature works on all versions, it was programmed for the Diamond editions that include all mic positions mixed by Shawn Murphy. Accordingly, we advise our Gold users to upgrade to Diamond, and ComposerCloud and ComposerCloud X subscribers to upgrade to ComposerCloud Plus while the 50% off offer is available. ComposerCloud X subscribers will receive a credit for the remainder of their current year towards the upgrade price.

Of course, multiple Academy Award and BAFTA winner Shawn Murphy was brought back to sound engineer all of the new recordings. Shawn Murphy is one of the most prolific sound engineers and mixers in the history of cinema. Just some of his over 500 feature film credits include the Star Wars franchise (The Rise of Skywalker, The Last Jedi, The Force Awakens, Revenge of the Sith, Attack of the Clones, The Phantom Menace), The Hunger Games franchise, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Jurassic Park and The Lost World, Titanic, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Mission: Impossible, Apollo 13, the Indiana Jones franchise (Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade), and the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

Our brand new OPUS software engine replaces PLAY and has been years in development. "Many improvements were made to the PLAY software engine over the last decade but we suddenly had a unique opportunity," says producer Doug Rogers, "we were able to bring Wolfgang Kundrus in as head of software development. He was the mastermind behind the creation of Cubase, Nuendo, and Studio One. Then we were able to bring in Wolfgang Schneider, the creator of Kontakt. With these two titans of music software development now on our team, we decided it was time to develop a brand new software engine from the ground up. The OPUS software engine is the realization of this effort. Not only is it faster, more powerful, more flexible, and better looking than PLAY, it comes with some incredible new features such as individual instrument downloads, customized key-switches, new effects for the mixer page, scaleable retina GUI upgrades for legacy products, a powerful new script language, and many more features that allow you to completely customize the sound of each instrument. It's one of the most exciting developments in the history of our company and will be the launching pad for many exciting new products in the future."

Create full-scale orchestral music with complex arrangements by playing a few simple chords with one hand and shaping expression with the other. Developed in collaboration with Sonuscore, Hollywood Orchestrator uses all the instruments in Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition to create realtime arrangements based on your MIDI input with our Innovative Scoring Engine.

With over 500 customizable presets, you can instantly create music in the style of Hollywood's greatest composers. Select from Ensemble presets to quickly create rich orchestral arrangements. With Ostinato presets, you can build rhythmic tension in different meters or create moving melodic lines by only changing a few notes. With Score, classic Hollywood orchestrations become an endless source of inspiration. Create your own User presets by modifying existing presets or by building your own presets from scratch.

At the heart of Hollywood Orchestrator is our innovative Scoring Engine, which can produce results ranging from a basic string arrangement, to very complex orchestrations played by the full orchestra. It achieves this in a two-step process by first modifying the MIDI input with a Note Selection process, then sending those note selections to a powerful Step Sequencer where chords are played with the programmed rhythms. If you want to take things a step further, you can optionally active our step sequencers. Each slot has one of them. They take, whatever the note selection process outputs, and manipulate that. If you program a rhythmic pattern into the sequencers and play a C-Major chord, the sequencers will take the notes from the note selection and play the chord with that rhythm.

In the Mixer section, refine the final output of each instrument by adjusting the volume, pan, equalization, reverb preset, reverb send amounts, and other reverb controls like pre-delay, length, and filters.

Hollywood Orchestrator is the perfect tool both for new composers who want to get that magical Hollywood sound quickly and effortlessly, and for professional composers who need to produce large amounts of compositions on a deadline. Please note: Hollywood Orchestrator requires Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition, it is not a standalone product, and is not compatible with the original Hollywood Orchestra or Hollywood Solo Instruments which are now included in the Opus Edition with the newly recorded instruments. Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition, Hollywood Orchestrator, and the OPUS software engine will be available for purchase and in our ComposerCloud subscription service upon release.

Is Hollywood Orchestrator available as a separate purchase/can it be removed from the Opus upgrade?

Hollywood Orchestrator is built into the Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition and at this time is not available as a separate purchase, nor can you omit it from the purchase price.

What is the difference between the Gold and Diamond versions of Opus?

The Gold edition (available for purchase or within the ComposerCloud subscription) has 16-bit samples and one microphone position. Gold X (only available with a ComposerCloud X Subscription) adds one additional mic position. The Diamond version, which you can purchase or access with the ComposerCloud Plus subscription, is 24-bit samples with all mic positions.

Will upgrading to Opus affect my current/existing projects?

No, Opus and Play are two separate software products, anything you have saved in your projects will still load up inside the saved Play version of the plugins. You can update your current/existing projects to Opus if you so choose, or leave them saved within Play.

How Large is the Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition?

Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition Diamond is approximately 944GB in size which includes both the original and new content. Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition Gold is approximately 242GB in size.

Am I able to save the Orchestra Opus content to a drive separate from my existing Hollywood Orchestra Content?

No, you can split the sections to different devices, but any section will consolidate into the same directory. For example both Hollywood Strings Diamond and the Hollywood Strings Opus Edition Diamond will have to be in the same directory, but you could have Hollywood Brass and Hollywood Brass Opus Edition in the same directory in another location.

Can I split the Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition onto multiple drives?

Yes, that is possible. The Opus Edition is split into separate sections: Brass, Percussion, Strings, Woodwinds, Solo Violin, Solo Cello, and Harp. Each section can be installed on a separate drive.

Do I have to reinstall the whole Orchestra, or just download the Opus content?

If you already have the Hollywood Orchestra Gold or Diamond installed, you will only need to download the additional OPUS content which will be available as a download via the Installation Center.

Do you have EDU discounts on Opus?

We do not offer educational discounts on product purchases, but if you are a Student or Teacher we have educational discounts on our ComposerCloud and ComposerCloud X subscription plans, both of which include the Hollywood Orchestra Gold Opus edition.

What's included in the Opus Edition?:

  • Includes over 130GB of brand new recordings (total size is now 944GB).
  • Includes reimagined original content for all sections and solo instruments.
  • Includes all new interfaces that change color depending on the MOOD selected.
  • Includes Hollywood Orchestrator ($299 value), a must-have tool for composers.
  • Includes all Hollywood Solo Instruments ($299 value).
  • Includes Innovative new features and effects powered by our new OPUS engine.

Can I upgrade just a section of the Orchestra to the Opus Edition?

The upgrade to the Opus Edition is only for the full Hollywood Orchestra, individual sections cannot be upgraded. To qualify for an upgrade you must have 4 of these 7 sections: Brass, Percussion, Strings, Woodwinds, Solo Violin, Solo Cello, and Harp.

What if I'd like to upgrade to Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition in the Diamond Version, but I only own a partial amount of the Diamond tiers or have all Gold or a combination of Gold & Diamond out of my Hollywood Orchestral licenses?

In the event that a customer should own the licenses for a combination of Gold and Diamond titles, and not the entire required set of Hollywood series licenses for the higher Diamond tier; the only options for upgrading are Gold to HO Opus Gold or Gold to HO Opus Diamond out of the upgrade options.

Anyone with a mixture of Gold and Diamond out of their previous licenses for the old Hollywood Orchestra must upgrade to the Opus Gold or pay the additional cost to upgrade to Diamond using the Gold to Opus Diamond upgrade which can be selected from the purchase section.

Is the original Hollywood Orchestra and Solo Instruments compatible with Opus?

No, only Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition is compatible with the new Opus software. Providing support for old and new versions of Hollywood Orchestra in the Opus software would create confusion and require us to support two versions of the same product in the same software. Original Hollywood Orchestra users that do not upgrade will continue to use the Play software. All other products except the MIDI Guitar Series are supported in Opus as only the interfaces have been updated to retina resolution in these products.

Will I be able to upgrade to the Opus engine without buying Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition?

Currently you must purchase Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition to get the OPUS software. People who purchase any product post-release will also get OPUS. All ComposerCloud members will automatically get OPUS. But we are going to wait a while before allowing previous PLAY product purchasers to upgrade in order to assist our support team during this major upgrade period. When we do provide that option, it will be a paid upgrade.

Do you provide a hard drive option? What drive is it?

The Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition Diamond has a hard drive option which you can select during the purchase procedure. It is a 5400rpm hard drive intended for content delivery and backup purposes only. We recommend all users to transfer the data to SSD drives separate to the operating system drive. Amazon has good SSD prices internationally.

What is the MOODS feature?

The MOODS feature was programmed for the Diamond editions that include all mic positions (and ComposerCloud Plus). MOODS allows you to easily switch multiple parameters to best match the music you are creating. Classic MOOD is the original Hollywood Orchestra sound. Soft MOOD modifies the sound for softer, more emotional passages. Epic MOOD does the opposite, giving you a sound perfectly suited for your next Action Adventure score. Each MOOD changes the settings and the look of the interface.

What is Hollywood Orchestrator?

Hollywood Orchestrator is our innovative Scoring Engine that is built into Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition, which can help you quickly produce results ranging from basic string arrangements to complex orchestrations. You can use one of the over 500 presets, modify them, or create your own. You can play the presets into your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), or export them to your DAW using MIDI export. With MIDI export, you can record complete passages with any Orchestrator preset with all data as MIDI regions. This enables you to adjust your recorded composition and change notes at any time as if you created these in your DAW.

This was the biggest (and it is huge) disappointment of any orchestral library I've anticipated as much as I did this one. I'll start amassing all the broken bits of these sample sets and maybe someday I'll post a more complete review. For now, suffice it to say that in the days I've had to explore this library, I don't see myself using it as more than a layer with a much better sample set and engine.

This library is huge. Even with fast fibre internet, it took nearly a day to download it all. Theoretically, you can download just the sounds you want to use, but I did not take the time to figure this out.

Opus engine had huge promise, but so far I have not had enough time to see if it delivers anything. Given the lackluster options within the libraries, I may never take the time to know.

Some of the so-called articulations sound like the main samples were just edited with EQ and such. For example, the strings that have flautando (18 violins does, but many of them do not) sound like a variation on the con sordino. I could not make any sense of why some instruments had many articulations and others had only long and staccato. For my arranging, there are so many missing articulations that this could never be my main library even if I liked it more.

great sounds, really good engine.

the orchestrator is very powerful and can inspire you to play things you'd probably rarely think of.

only problem is the download process as you need more than a terabyte to install everything so if you want to place everything on a single 1tb ssd, you'll need to use another disk in the process and copy and paste stuff but it's not such a big deal-provided you have space.
