Waves updates GTR3

11th November 2008

Waves has announced the release of a new GTR3 update that includes six new classic modeled amps and seven new cabs from Grammy-winning guitar expert Neil Citron - guitar tech and recording engineer for six-string super heroes like Slash, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Steve Lukather and Larry Carlton. With Citron's contributions, GTR3, the flagship of Waves' line of guitar sound processing tools, now includes a total of 32 modeled guitar and bass amps.

GTR3From the personal settings on his customized Carvin Legacy, Ibanez TN120 Thermion and modified '60s 100W Marshall Plexi amps, to his vintage hand-made cabinets and hand-picked microphones, Citron's expertise and years of experience bring new dimensions to GTR3. Waves precision-modeled Citron's unique amp configurations and studio techniques to deliver a realistic, nuanced sound. In the modeling process, the amps were miked and sampled using Neve mic-pres and EQ'd exactly the way Citron would record them in a tracking session. Six models resulted from this process: "Clean" and "Crunch" Legatron (based on a customized Carvin Legacy), "Clean" and "Crunch" Thermitron (based on an Ibanez TN120 Thermion) and "Clean" and "Crunch" Plexitron (based on a modified 1960s 100W Marshall Plexi).

About GTR3
GTR3 achieves accurate and nuanced guitar tones by using sampling techniques that go way beyond standard modeling, according to Waves. The GTR3 features a special hardware guitar interface developed in conjunction with Paul Reed Smith that provides the correct impedance and level matching, maintaining the sound, volume and dynamic range delivered by a true guitar input. This results in minimum signal loss, maximum model realism and true touch playability.

In addition to a Direct Input option for full, transparent tone, there's a vast selection of sounds modeled on famous amplifiers.
