PowerFX releases the Fairlight CMI Legacy Refill

29th April 2010

PowerFX has announced the release of the Fairlight CMI Legacy Refill for Reason. This collection contains an array of ultra clean recordings of the original sounds from the Fairlight CMI II, the world's first real sampling based workstation as premiered some time before 1980. This Reason 4 library costs ($69), much less than 64 kilobytes of memory did in 1980.

The Refill contains somewhat more than that too, with 644 MB and 2000 sounds, including all of the Fairlight's 33 precious 8 inch factory discs. To celebrate the Fairlight feel, all new samples are labeled and arranged in virtual 8 inch disks as well. The sound quality is mixed from 8 bit ultra rare up to full dynamics using clever programming, re-sampling and "new inventions on sample playback made possible only in Reason's NNXT sampler".

This library honors the mythic invention of Kim Ryrie and Peter Vogel, as used and created a myth by Vince Clarke, Yello, Yazoo, Pet Shop Boys, Scritti Politti, China Crisis, Peter Gabriel, Nine Inch Nails, Art of Noise and many more. Developed by Reason guru Patrick Fridh, aka Bitley, his programming skill and passion for the instrument and the era are in full effect.

You can get more information the refill and the Fairlight and listen to the product demo and 3 songs recorded using this refill at powerfx.com.
