Zynewave releases Podium Free v2.31 (and updates Podium to v2.32)

29th June 2010

Zynewave has announced the release of the first public freeware edition of Podium. It is available as a free download for Windows from zynewave.com/download. The full version of Podium has also been updated to v2.32.

Podium Free is a fully functional freeware edition of Podium. It is identical to the commercial Podium version, except for a few limitations, and a small "Podium Free" logo. Podium Free will be familiar to users of the Podium 2 CM version that came bundled with the Computer Music magazine earlier this year. It has the same limitations as the CM version, but it is a more recent version.

Limitations of Podium Free compared to the commercial version:

The disabled plugin multiprocessing option means that only one CPU core will be used when processing plugins. If you have a dual-core CPU you will be able to use 50% of your available CPU power before the Podium CPU indicator overloads. Podium Free still uses all available CPU cores for various tasks such as GUI updates and disk streaming.

These limitations may change in newer releases of Podium Free. It will depend on new features added to Podium, and the general user response to Podium Free.

The .pod file format has been updated in this release, so please make backups of your older projects before saving, if you intend to go back to previous Podium releases.
