HEDD releases free Lineariser plug-in - addresses monitor phase and harnesses host CPU power for phase-aligned audio

31st August 2017

German studio monitor makers HEDD, founded by industry veteran Klaus Heinz and his son, musicologist Dr. Frederik Knop, have unveiled a free plug-in designed to solve one of the most challenging issues in loudspeaker design: Phase Linearisation.

While other manufacturers use DSP solutions within their speaker designs for correcting frequency responses (and rarely phase issues), the so-called Lineariser hands these tasks off to software, harnessing the power of the host computer CPU (up to 192 kHz, 32-bit), so that no additional AD/DA conversion in the speaker is necessary. The correction process increases the speakers stereo imaging qualities, their general accuracy and punch.

The HEDD Lineariser sits at the end of the stereo bus plug-in chain within the Digital Audio Workstation. It can also be used in standalone mode for use with media players such as iTunes, Spotify, SoundCloud, Groove, etc. Users can choose between three phase settings (Linear Full Range, Linear above 500 Hz, Minimum Phase) and two frequency-related curves (HEDD Alignment, Anechoic flat).

System Requirements: Windows (7, 8, 8.1, 10, x86, x64) – Mac OS X 10.8 or newer. The Lineariser is available in VST, AU, and AAX format.
