Whole Sounds releases 1954 Baldwin Parlor Grand for UVI Workstation

16th October 2017

Whole Sounds has released 1954 Baldwin Parlor Grand, a new sampled piano for UVI Workstation developed by Dan McKinney, who had previously created Vintage Drums for Drumagog, the first 3rd party sample collection built for Wavemachine Lab's Drumagog.

The piano is a 5'4" grand with a majestic low end and sparkling highs throughout a wide dynamic range. Samples were recorded from four mic perspectives, and the user interface includes a four channel mixer, eq and compression modules, built-in custom convolution reverbs, key release and pedal noise samples, velocity control and sustain pedal resonance.

All the controls' settings can be easily saved and recalled within the open instrument with a "save scene" function. A/B and copy/paste buttons along with standard mixer controls like pan, solo, and mute are included for the four-perspective mixer and signal processing modules.

The close mics, two Neumann KM 84, bring a bright, bold sound that can be tempered with warmer samples recorded outside the open lid with an AEA R88 stereo ribbon mic, and a set of samples recorded a good 15 feet away with two vintage AKG c414 Buls mics. Included is a set of mono samples, recorded with an AEA r84 ribbon from just behind the player's perspective, useful when total mono compatibility sound is desired.

Price: $79.

A free evaluation version of the piano is available - no iLok registration or purchase required.
