Discovery Sound releases TUVA: khoomei (ACID/WAV/REX2)

25th January 2006

Discovery Sound has released TUVA: khoomei, a new sample library in ACID|WAV and REX2 formats, recorded in Tuva, "where rich green forests and beautiful lakes and rivers are spread out".

The collection features samples of Khoomei, a type of throat singing with distinct fundamental and overtone melody above that, used in folk music from Tuva, and two kinds of stringed instruments - Doshpuluur, a three-stringed instrument with frets similar to a banjo but with the warm sound of wood and goat skin, and Igil, a two-stringed, bowed, and fretless instrument. Igil is deeply connected with the mythology of the horse, the most important animal in Tuvan life. It sounds like a cross between violin and cello and often imitates the sound and rhythms of the horse.

All sound files are presented in both 44.1 kHz/16bit and 96 kHz/24bit formats. TUVA: khoomei is available on CD and costs $55.
