Reason Studios has announced the release of Reason 13.1, a free update to the latest version of Reason, Reason 13, that launched earlier this year. The highlights of the 13.1 update are two new Player MIDI effects, custom tags in the new Reason browser and device palette, and continued improvement to the sequencer, including clip and note splitting.
The first new Player MIDI Effect is Random Tool, which introduces controlled randomness in pitch, velocity, and note length. It is a quick and fun way to create organic variation and spontaneity to any track.
The other new Player MIDI effect is Note Tool. It allows for detailed control over MIDI performances, including adjustments like velocity curve fine-tuning, note transposition, and sustained chords without a pedal—perfect for expressive playing and hands-free tweaking.
As with all devices in Reason, the devices are also available through Reason Rack Plugin (VST3/AU/AAX) in any DAW.
The new browser, introduced in Reason 13, added categories and tags for the over 30,000 patches in Reason e.g. "Punchy", "Layered" or "Glitchy". With Reason 13.1 music makers can add their own tags, on top of the ones already supplied by Reason Studios.
Full list of improvements to the Browser:
On top of custom tags in the browser, the Device Palette in Reason 13.1 has been updated with new customization options. Easily favorite or hide devices, categorize your plugins, and create custom tags for whatever you need, e.g. "Vocal Chain" or "Liquid Drum'n'Bass".
Reason 13.1 continues to improve on the sequencer, with two small but requested features. The sequencer now supports "Chop Clip/Note to" for quickly chopping notes or clips into note values (e.g. 16th notes), and "Split at song position" to quickly split any selected clips where the song position pointer is.
Reason is about finding your own unique sound and Reason 13 and the 13.1 update continues on that path by adding a slew of new unique devices and making 25 years of sound design easily available.
