Mixwave Releases Coil Audio CA-286S

MixWave has announced the release of the Coil Audio CA-286S, a plugin that models a classic European two-stage tube amplifier. The plugin is inspired by hardware from the 1950s and 60s from brands like Telefunken, Langevin, and Collins.

The original hardware, and now the plugin, is known for its mid-forward, high-fidelity character, aiming to capture the detailed tone associated with vintage EF86 tube-based preamps. MixWave notes that this contrasts with their previous Coil Audio CA-70S release, which provides a deeper, more massive tone. The CA-286S was recreated using the company's component-level modeling technology.

The controls are designed to be intuitive. The Input section offers both Mic and Line amp models for sounds ranging from subtle saturation to distortion, and includes a phase reverse switch and a 4-position pad. The Low and Negative Feedback controls are interactive; the Low control adjusts low-end presence, while the Negative Feedback control shifts the harmonic character from bright and forward to a darker, more controlled sound.

It is available in 64-bit VST3, AU, and AAX formats for macOS (10.13 and newer, Intel & Apple Silicon) and Windows (10 and 11).
