Native Instruments has announced the release of Erosia, a new cinematic sound design instrument.
Erosia focuses on capturing the sounds of friction and tension, using a combination of contact microphones and traditional close-micing techniques to record unconventional textures. Sounds were created from materials like bowed glass, rusted hinges, cracked pianos, and splintered wood.
The instrument is built on a four-layer engine, with one "Grain" layer for animating textures, and three additional layers that can be either samplers or wavetable synths. This allows for the creation of evolving and unpredictable soundscapes. Erosia also includes a range of built-in effects, including reverbs, delays, saturation, distortion, and modulation.
Erosia is available now for $149. It runs in the free Kontakt Player (version 8.6.0 or higher).
